English-language comedy in Prague is on an upward trend. With the growing popularity, amateur and professional comedians are bringing their experiences to Prague’s comedy scene. Comedy fans can look forward to the many events from May through autumn.

The Metro Comedy Club in Žižkov is one spot dedicated to weekly English-language comedy events to check out often. Visitors to the club can expect open mic and themed comedy events. From roast battles, and storytelling, to dark comedy shows every week from Wednesday to Saturday.

Beyond the laugh, the club creates an ambiance to loosen up by serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. They also make an environment for socialization of their guests at the club’s comedy lounge before or after the show. Started by Kristýna Haklová, Metro Comedy Club was inspired by her experiences performing in Prague and Berlin.

Carmine Rodi Falanga, a household name in Prague’s comedy scene, hosts weekly shows every Friday and Sunday. He loves dark humor and finds creativity in the most absurd situations in everyday life. The Italian-born comic moved to Prague in 2015. Since then, he has established a reputation for long-format comedy shows, drawing inspiration from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Letná’s Coffice is promoting the pub scene comedy with weekly shows on Thursdays from May 9. Additionally, you can head to the Comedy Store which will take place at the Lucerna Music Bar on Friday, May 10. Comedians, Lara Ricote, Dinesh Nathan, and Michael Akadiri will make you laugh from 7 pm.

Later in May, comedy lovers can look forward to the Prague Fringe Festival from May 27 to June 1. The Prague Fringe was started by Steve Gove in 2007. It has since grown bigger with each edition. This year, audiences will be treated to diverse performances including comedy, theater, dance, and music.

According to the organizers, comedians will come from India, Ukraine, America, the UK, and more nations. Some of the award-winning comedians expected to grace the event include Jake Baker, Russell Hicks, and Ukrainian comic Dan Step.

Moving to September, comedy fans should get excited to attend the live show Battleaxe by the Netflix stand-up comedy star Katherine Ryan. She is famed for creating Netflix’s hit show The Duchess in 2020. Moreover, the Netflix comedy specials, In Trouble, Glitter Room, and  Missus created in 2022 are more notable works by Ryan.

Besides, this Canadian-Irish comedian brings her show to Prague on September 14 at the RockOpera Praha. The live show is part of her 2024 UK and European tour. Ryan’s show Battleaxe will be part of the Prague Comedy Stop festival happening in September.
