Ivan Faces an 8-month ban, GUILTY of betting Offences

After being found guilty of betting offenses, Ivan Toney was given an eight-month suspension from all football and football-related activities by the Football Association.

The Brentford striker was accused of breaking 232 Football Association rules in November and another 30 in December; however, the charges for the latter violations were ultimately dropped. The case began with allegedly made bets in 2017 when he was playing for Scunthorpe on loan from Newcastle.

A statement from the FA reads: “Ivan Toney has been suspended from all football and football-related activity with immediate effect for eight months, fined £50,000, and warned as to his future conduct for breaches of The FA’s Betting Rules.

“The Brentford FC forward was charged with 262 breaches of FA Rule E8 in total between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021. The FA subsequently withdrew 30 of these breaches and he admitted to the remaining 232.

“His sanctions were subsequently imposed by an independent Regulatory Commission following a personal hearing. He is permitted to return to training only with his club for the final four months of his suspension starting from 17 September 2023.

“The independent Regulatory Commission’s written reasons for these sanctions will be published in due course, and The FA will wait to review them before commenting further.”

In response, Brentford issued the following statement: “Brentford FC notes the decision of an independent Regulatory Commission to immediately impose an eight-month suspension on Ivan Toney from participating in any football-related activity.

Ivan had a personal hearing earlier this week after being accused of breaking FA rule E8.

“Brentford FC is waiting for the Independent Regulatory Commission’s written reasons to be published. Before deciding on the next course of action, we shall review them.

The striker has been outstanding for the Bees this season, tallying 20 Premier League goals in 33 games. Arsenal and Manchester United, two of the best Premier League clubs, had taken notice of his goal-scoring abilities.

Thomas Frank, the manager of Brentford, has publicly supported the player throughout the situation, but he also acknowledged that his team was prepared to lose their star player for an extended length of time. Frank stated last week: “I’m quite sure we’ll know where we are before the season ends or right after the season so we can maybe react.

We are in a good place right now. Kevin Schade, Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo, and Keane Lewis-Potter are four of our top players. But before we take any action, we must wait for the hearing’s verdict. However, we are ready to act if necessary.

The 27-year-old received his first England cap during the most recent international break after being called up by Gareth Southgate earlier this season. When questioned about his choice in the midst of the probe, the Three Lions manager responded to reporters by saying: “He’s playing for his club, he’s accessible. I’m not sure why we wouldn’t choose him because there hasn’t been a trial or a ruling.
