Barcelona’s Pristine Beaches and Ports Earn Prestigious Eco-Label

FEE has awarded a prestigious Blue Flag distinction to over 20 beaches and 7 ports in Barcelona.

The Blue Flag is a coveted certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that a beach, marina, or sustainable boating tourism operator meets its stringent standards.

The Blue Flag criteria include standards for quality, safety, environmental education and information, the provision of services, and general environmental management criteria.

The Blue Flag is sought for beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators as an indication of their high environmental and quality standards.

Being one of the world’s most recognized eco-labels for beaches, ports, and boating tourism operators, Barcelona’s beaches receiving the Blue Flag recognition proclaims how the Catalan city boasts some of the most impressive beaches across Catalonia.

For the general Catalan region, The Costa Brava in the northern Catalan region of Girona had 27 beaches receiving the Blue Flag, hence being the area that had the most beaches in Catalonia.

In addition to those, 22 beaches came from the Penedès area, 20 from Barcelona, 18 from Tarragona, and 8 from the southernmost Terres de l’Ebre area.

Regarding the ports, 9 are located in Girona, 7 are in Barcelona, and Tarragona and Terres de l’Ebre also have seven apiece.
