A tourist tax of two euros for overnight stays is set to commence on May 21st in the district of Faro. The City Council of Albufeira has intimated its plans to start charging this fee in the municipality as high season approaches.

The tax was to enter into force on May 2nd but in a statement by the City Council today, it is suspended until May 20th. Reasons given for this suspension is that some challenges with the payment computer application are yet to be resolved.

José Carlos Rolo, president of the municipality stated that due to these constraints, ‘the starting date for collection is expected to be May 21st.
