Man City Beats Inter Milan 1-0 to win first Champions Leagues and complete 3-trophy sweep

Manchester City have finally won the Champions League and become the second English club, after their neighbors in 1999, to win the Treble.

Inter Milan presented a difficult challenge for Pep Guardiola’s team, but Rodri’s fine goal midway through the second half, which he scored by shooting first-time past Andre Onana, was enough to secure their victory in front of owner Sheikh Mansour, who was in Istanbul to watch the team he bought 15 years ago for just the second time.
Following are some key talking points from a tense and anxious evening that saw fans endure pre-game pandemonium, Kevin De Bruyne sustains yet another injury and Romelu Lukaku cause trouble.

1. Sensational Stones

Giving the winner of a 1-0 victory the man of the match award is far too frequently a get-out. And in this instance, it was proven that Rodri received the extra silverware. But John Stones, who excelled in his versatile position as a half-full back, half-central midfielder, should have received it instead.

He was persistent tonight when so many of his teammates felt that the occasion had robbed them of their maximum fluency, and that tactical adjustment in the early spring corresponded with City moving up a level.

2. De Bruyne Double Blow

As the talented Belgian left another Champions League final early due to an injury, it was difficult not to feel bad for him.

After Antonio Rudiger injured his face in 2021, De Bruyne was replaced an hour later as tears streamed down his cheeks. This time, due to a hamstring injury, he only managed to last a little longer than half that time. Erling Haaland wrapped his arm around his shoulder as he went slowly towards the dugout with his head lowered, having been denied the chance to make a lasting contribution on the grandest club stage of them all. He instantly gave the bench the signal that the game was ended.

3. Unlucky Lukaku

The former Manchester United striker’s coming off the bench while the game remained scoreless felt like it was written right into the script. 11 years after he watched as a spectator when his former Chelsea team won the trophy and he declined a medal, he might be the one to put an end to the treble dream.

Instead, he proved to be more of a liability than a help, blocking Federico Dimarco’s goal-bound effort, having a feeble shot expertly saved by Ederson from a prime position, and then firing a long-range shot high and wide in the closing seconds.

Don’t count on him returning to Chelsea in August.

4. Carson’s second medal

A special mention goes to Scott Carson, the backup goalkeeper for Manchester City, who hasn’t appeared in a competitive game since March 2022. The 37-year-old, who just extended his contract, now holds two Champions League championship medals. the initial? When Liverpool shocked Milan by coming back from three goals down when he was sitting on the bench in this stadium 18 years ago. Nice work if you can get it.
