The Stadion Feijenoord which is commonly by its name De Kuip. It is a stadium in Rotterdam Netherlands.The stadium which was completed in 1937.
Its name was derived from thr Feijenoord district in Rotterdam. And from the club with the same name was internationalised to Feyenoord in 1973. The stadium originallyhad a capacity of 64000. In 1949 it was expanded to 69000. It was also converted to 51, 117 seat all- seater in the same year.
In 1930 Leen Van Zandvliet Feynoord’s president came with the idea of building the new stadium unlikely any other on the continent. With two free hanging tiers and no obstacles blocking the view. Contemporary examples were Highbury, where the West and East stands had been recently built as a double deck, and Yankee Stadium in New York.

The stadium was co-financed by the billionaire Daniël George van Beuningen, who made his fortune in World War I, exporting coal from Germany to Britain through neutral Netherlands.

1. De Kuip has been designed in a bowl style
The construction of De Kuip which was a Dutch for tub or bowl which is similar to other big European grounds. There are essentially three tiers that run around the structure, with Maastribune the stand where the executive lodges and VIP seating are located.
It had started in 1935 and finished only 10 months later. The stadium was ready in July 1936, however the Rotterdam government had failed to upgrade the infrastructure around the stadium and a first match had to get postponed.

This means ‘The Tub’ in Dutch and was so named because of the shape and general look of the venue.

In 2002, the final of the UEFA Cup was played at De Kuip, which saw home side Feyenoord beat Borussia Dortmund 3-2. of Germany at the Feijenoord Stadion in Rotterdam, Feyenoord’s home ground. It was the 31st UEFA Cup final and it was also the first time that the final had been played at a finalist’s home ground since the introduction of single–match finals in the UEFA Cup in 1998

De Kuip has hosted over 150 Netherlands international matches and 10 European Cup finals including Tottenham’s 5-1 win over Atletico Madrid in the 1963 Cup Winners’ Cup – with Spurs becoming the first English team to win a European trophy.
The last European club final played at the ground was Feyenoord’s 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the 2002 UEFA Cup final – Feyenoord winning the competition at their own stadium.

The stadium’s original capacity was 64,000. In 1949, it was expanded to 69,000, and in 1994 it was converted to a 51,117-seat all-seater. In 1999, a significant amount of restoration and interior work took place at the stadium prior to its use as a venue in the UEFA Euro 2000 tournament.

De Kuip has a recored 10 European final that have taken place in the stadium. It staged the final of the European Cup winner’s cup with Tottenham Hotspur, which became the first British club to win a European trophy. Tottenham deafed Atletico Madrid with 5-1.
The 2002 UEFA Cup was the final which was held in Feyenoord. It coincidentally there was a home match and defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-2. Also in 2000, the Feijenoord stadium hosted the final of Euro 2000, played in the Netherlands and Belgium, where France defeated Italy 2–1 in extra time
