8 Unique Places to Stay in Munich


 

A trip to Munich in Germany should definitely be on your bucket list. Whether you decide to go during the famous Oktoberfest, or during a quieter time of year, you’re sure to have a great time!

The city is filled with great architecture, interesting museums, and delicious restaurant options. There is something for everyone here, whether you’re someone who rises with the sun and is ready to explore, or if you’re more of a night owl that wants to go out and party.

1. Hotel Laimer Hof

Hotel Laimer Hof is one of the most popular hotels in Munich! Located in a refurbished historical villa that was built in 1886, this should be your go-to if you like history, and great customer service. In fact, this hotel has won the Traveller’s Choice award since 2012!

You’ll find this hotel in the Nymphenburg neighborhood of Munich, named for it’s proximity to the Nymphenburg Palace. You should definitely visit the palace when you’re in the city. It’s impressive design will amaze you, and it’s a really special opportunity to visit a real Baroque style palace.

Additionally, Europe’s largest beer garden is just 5 minutes away by foot. It’s called the Königlicher Hirschgarten and should definitely be on your to-see list if you’re a beer drinker.

2. Anna Hotel

The Anna Hotel is situated smack dab in the center of Munich. Munich Central Station is right next door to the hotel, giving it a convenient location.

The hotel boasts a uncommon curved shape, making some of the rooms really unique. The rooms are decorated in a modern design, and you’ll also enjoy some great panoramic views! If you can snag the room on the 6th floor, you’ll also have a balcony.

Bonus for all of you rest and relaxation lovers, as guests at the Anna Hotel have access to a spa located next door.

3. Steigenberger Hotel München

The Schwabing district of Munich is one of the up and coming neighborhoods in the city, and that is where you’ll find the Steigenberger Hotel! This neighborhood is definitely not in the center of town, but if you’re willing to do some walking, or take the public transportation, you can easily access the touristy sections of town.

The rooms are beautifully decorated and there is also an equally beautiful spa inside the hotel, which includes a bio-sauna!

In the restaurant, you’ll find gluten free and vegan options, and of course plenty of beer. Guests also have the option of meeting with a beer sommelier, if you’re interested in learning about various brews, and of course, tasting them!

4. Gspusi Bar Hostel

This one goes out to all of my travelers on a budget! Staying in a hostel doesn’t mean you need to skimp on coolness, or on modern design. You’ll find both at the Gspusi Bar Hostel!

The hostel is located just next door to the Old Town section of Munich, which is perfect for wandering and taking pictures of the beautiful architecture. It’s also a central part of town, so you’ll be in the action as soon as you walk out the door.

Don’t miss the impressive Viktualienmarkt, a 200 year old market that boasts flowers, food and other treats. It’s only an 8 minute walk away from the hostel!

5. BEYOND by Geisel

BEYOND by Geisel is a very small boutique hotel with just 19 rooms available. If you’re looking for a more intimate stay, you should consider this hotel. It opened in 2017, and has earned rave reviews ever since.

Located on the Marienplatz plaza, you’ll be able to admire the beautiful architecture of the New Town Hall. Some of the rooms have a really impressive view of the plaza.

The rooms are beautifully decorated with modern amenities, including a rain shower in the bathroom. This exclusive hotel would definitely make for a unique Munich experience!

6. Cocoon Hauptbahnhof

Cocoon Hauptbahnhof is another hotel on my list that boasts beautifully designed rooms. Think exposed wooden beams and alpine-themed decorations, complete with former ski lifts that have been converted into walls. This hotel is cozy and modern all at the same time.

Located in the Ludwigsvorstadt neighborhood, travelers that are interested in the beer, food and architectural scene will love this hotel. The staff is also really friendly and helpful.

This hotel is also conveniently located near the Munich Central Station, which makes for easy access if you arrive by train, or are coming from the airport. Calling all ski lovers, this hotel is for you.

7. Hotel Bayerischer Hof

Hotel Bayerischer Hof is located in the historical center of Munich. The rooms are large, gorgeously decorated and some of the suites include great views of the city. The building was originally commissioned by King Ludwig I.

The impressive Rocco yet modernly designed Falk’s Bar is just one reason why this Munich hotel so unique! It is located in the hall of mirror’s, which is the only room to survive untouched after World War II.

The hotel features the Blue Spa, which hosts barbecues in the summer, and an ice bar in the winter. There is also a night club in the hotel that plays amazing Jazz music.

8. Flushing Meadows Hotel & Bar

The Flushing Meadows Hotel & Bar is another intimate boutique hotel in Munich that has just 16 rooms available. This place should be your go-to if you are a proud hipster. You’ll find a rooftop terrace that serves delicious pressed juices, and each of the rooms are unique.

All of the rooms were specially designed by several different types of people, including an actress, professional surfer and furniture designer. Talk about variety!

The hotel is located close to the Isar River, which makes for a great place for a walk. There are historical landmarks like the Grave of Joseph Fraunhofer, the Old Southern Cemetery and the Mariahilfplatz in the area as well!
