5 Amazing Spanish Islands You Should Visit Soon

Spain is a sunny, laid back, fun country that makes for the perfect travel destination. There’s no better place to go to relax than the nation of beer and snacks. With clear water, clean sand, and many sights to see, you’ll wish you could move to these amazing islands.

The Canary Islands alone have 500 beaches, so there’s plenty of sand to go around. The best part is that every island is different, and each one has unique highlights and things to do, from hiking to night clubs.

The islands of Spain are made up of the Balearic Islands of the Mediterranean Sea and the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa. While there are numerous excellent beaches throughout Spain, here are five of the very best.

 Mallorca

Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, with around 200 beaches. One of the most well-known is called Es Trenc, a long stretch of white sand and turquoise water.

Size isn’t the only factor where Mallorca ranks at the top of the Balearics, in fact the island also hosts the most tourists. Approximately 10 million people visit Mallorca each year.

While lots of tourists can seem like a disadvantage of a destination, it has actually opened up more possibilities for this island. Mallorca has plenty of activities and establishments to accommodate its citizens and visitors.

If you’re looking for a relaxing stay at a resort, Mallorca may be the place for you. This popular island has both luxury and all-inclusive options for your stay. Mallorca can be the ideal destination for spending leisurely time at the beach.

Hotel Sant Francesc is my recommendation for your stay in Mallorca. It is located in  La Palma, the central area of the island, and has a gorgeous environment for relaxation and enjoyment.

The hotel features suites with terraces that have personal jaccuzis, and a calm yet elegant style throughout. This is what makes the Hotel Sant Francesc the perfect mix between simple and extravagant.

Moreover, the art and photography that decorates the walls was created by various artists, most specifically made for the Sant Francesc. Other ammenities include a fitness room, spa treatment cabins, and access to a personal trainer or yoga instructor on request.

Menorca

If you want to experience the beauty and charm of Mallorca without an abundance of tourists, Menorca is the perfect option for you. This amazing island receives fewer visitors than Mallorca, but is arguably even more exquisite.

Contrary to some of the busier islands on this list, Menorca is known more for its cliffs and coves. The unique topography of the island makes for unforgettable experiences at the beach.

Destination beaches like Cala Mitjana and Macarelleta will make you feel like you’ve escaped to your own private getaway. Water sports like sailing, windsurfing and diving are popular in Menorca.

For a fresh perspective of the amazing surroundings, you can go to the top of the Monte Toro, the island’s highest mountain, and see a panoramic view from the monastery church.

For a stay in Menorca, The Flor de Rosassa is recommendable. This getaway hotel is one of the Tres Sants trio. The eight-story building has eight rooms, each one with a unique style and the name of a saint.

The indoor Spa Tres Sants features a beautiful candle-lit pool that is open 24 hours and reminiscent of Greek architecture. Once settled in this amazing hotel in Menorca, you’ll wish you’d never have to leave.

You will find this peaceful retreat to have everything you need, from a helpful staff to the perfect location in Ciutadella, the old port town. And when you’re not exploring the city, you can enjoy brunch in the courtyard and watch the sunset on the rooftop deck.

Book a room at Hotel tres sants on the website.

Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria in Spain

The most unique to the others, Gran Canaria features both black lava and white sand beaches. Unconventional sand colors come from the Caldera de Bandama, and they look beautiful against the backdrop of the bright buildings.

The Canary Islands is a group of seven volcanic territories off the northwest coast of Africa, so it makes sense that the Gran Canaria would have this type of intriguing terrain. This island is the third biggest of the group, behind Tenerife and Fuerteventura.

Golfing is a hidden jewel of entertainment in the Gran Canaria. The island has seven golf courses, and they can be visited year round, thanks to Spanish sunshine.

Anfi Tauro is said to be the best golf course on the island, while Maspalomas in the southeast is the most popular. In fact, Anfi Tauro was designed by world renowned golf-architects, Hagge, Smelek and Baril.

The Santa Catalina offers the best of Gran Canaria. Named the Royal Hideaway Hotel, every part of the establishment is luxurious and dreamy.

Moreover, the elegant accommodation is great for families, as children under the age of 12 stay free of charge. The Santa Catalina has both indoor and outdoor pools.

Including a long roof top pool with a gorgeous view, the exterior is just as impressive as the inside. The Santa Catalina is a light pink castle with nice bedrooms, lovely surroundings and exquisite food.

Poemas, by Hermanos Padrón, is the hotel’s gourmet restaurant which crafts gastronomical delights that reflect its Canary heritage and culinary creativity.

Ibiza

Known to be the heart of partying in Spain, this island is the traveler’s ultimate summer destination. If your dream island has music and nightlife, book a flight to Ibiza.

There are plenty of indoor and outdoor music venues located in hotspots around the coast. Find a beach club and enjoy one of the fun nightclubs that Ibiza has to offer.

Nonetheless, partying isn’t the only reason to visit Ibiza. The beautiful town is settled on a mountain, and there are incredible ocean views. Illetes, Migjorn and Cala Saona are some of the most outstanding beaches located around Ibiza.

My recommendation for your stay in Ibiza is the Paradiso Art Hotel, located in the San Antonio Bay for a colorful stay. Staying here means poolside cabanas, DJs, and lots of art.

The Paradiso hosts adults only, and puts on events that foster music, art, and fashion. There is a DJ playing by the pool almost every day and a connecting building to display the Art Hotel’s gallery.

This picturesque hotel experience is a no-brainer. Who wouldn’t want to explore Ibiza’s brilliant town through the lens of a creative, eventful accommodation?

The Paradiso Art Hotel makes for an unforgettable stay. It runs from May to mid-October to ensure that you’ll get a healthy dose of sunshine during your trip.

A room at the Paradiso can be booked on their website.

Formentera

Formentera is the smallest of the Balearic Islands.  It’s the perfect spot for a day trip, as it can be reached from Ibiza by ferry. The tiny island has no airport and no traffic lights, so it’s a great place to escape and relax.

Behind the beaches are unique landscapes of pine forests and sand dunes. The clear, turquoise water makes for fun snorkeling, sailing, or just laying on the sand.

Ferries depart from Ibiza every hour and take 30 minutes to arrive at Formentera. Once there, you can explore the island by shopping through the markets, walking on the beaches, or visiting one of the two lighthouses.

Though the island is small, there is no shortage of nice hotels to stay in. This white oasis feels like a relaxing retreat. Hotel Es Mares features a private open-air gym and an amazing tile spa for everything from a workout with a view to a calming  steam shower session.

Going from white bedrooms to restaurants, you’ll never want to leave this peaceful hotel. Located in the San Fransesc area, Es Mares is a short walk from the beach.

Reserve a room on the es mares website.

Exploring the highlights of each of these amazing islands makes it seem like the best thing to do is to visit every single one of them. From cliff diving to shopping, the Spanish Islands provide every activity that you could think of, and incredible sights along the way.

The distinct beauty of these islands can be seen by the different hotels that each has to offer. You could visit every island and still experience something completely new on each island. From amazing bedrooms to ocean views, these hotels will enhance the beauty of the islands you came to see.

The Balearic and Canary Islands arguably have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. No matter which Spanish Island you visit, you certainly won’t be complaining about the water. The island beaches are somehow crystal clear and bright blue all at once.
