10 Best Piano Bars in Los Angeles

Sick of going to the same places and hearing the same music?  Try and change your tune and go to a piano bar.

They are perfect for first dates, quiet drinks or as the starting point of your night, these spots offer a sophisticated setting with delicious food and appetising cocktails alongside the pitter patter of the keys.

A piano bar is where people can come to sing, play the piano, or just enjoy themselves. They’re usually accompanied by cocktails and drinks.

The musicians play the piano and sometimes sing. People often gather at these places for social occasions, such as after work or on weekends.

If you like to combine your musical socializing with food and drink, venues with smaller instrumental ensembles, such as piano bars, are likely to be exactly what you’re looking for in a great night out.

Los Angeles has lots of good places to dine and have some fun. Just walk around the city, especially where restaurants and piano bars are located and you will be overwhelmed by the variety of choices.

Check out our recommendations for the best piano bars in Los Angeles below.

1.      The Red Lion Tavern

2366 Glendale Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90039, United States

redliontavern.net

Why? The German spot serves sausage, schnitzel & beers in a chalet-style space or on its rooftop beer garden.

Red Lion Tavern isn’t just our favourite German beer garden on the Eastside, it’s one of our all-time favourite spots in LA, period.

There are few experiences as enjoyable as sitting out on the back patio, ordering a sausage sampler and drinking boots of beer until you actually think you’re in Germany.

If the outdoor beer garden becomes too much (it does get crowded), head inside to the dark downstairs lounge and watch Father Time (aka a really old dude) croon at the piano for a few hours.

This piano bar is known for its German pub house atmosphere from the food serve and yes the beverages which is “Beer”. Once you get inside

Not to mention live music. No piano bar that has no entertainment. If you’ll spend your date night with anyone you’ll get what you deserve. Good food, drinks and a great performance from a live artist for the night.

2.      The Varnish

118 E 6th St, Los Angeles, CA 90014, United States

Why? Mixologists handcraft custom cocktails at this dark, moody bar.

The Varnish is unique among piano bars in Los Angeles — despite only being around since 2009, the venue takes customers right back to the 1920s with the feel of a speakeasy.

There’s no over-the-top theme or gimmicky decor, just a good space with great drinks, and a surprisingly low-key atmosphere.

Unsurprisingly, the music offered is jazz, performed live every Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday after 9 pm.

Although they don’t offer food directly, the bar is attached to Cole’s restaurant.

Be aware, however, that The Varnish is tiny — you may have to wait to get in, and even though they don’t admit parties larger than six, you may find that it’s rather cramped and intimate.

Drinks can take a while to arrive, but only because each cocktail is expertly hand-crafted.

Getting hungry? Cole’s French Dip sandwiches are right next door and you can order as many as you want straight to the bar.

3. Tramp Stamp Granny’s

1638 N Cahuenga Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028, United States

Close to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, The Piano Bar has come a long way since its slightly seedy reputation.

Proud to have no guest list and no dress code, the music is described as offering a “party” feel, so expect the playlist to be mostly up-tempo.

Customer reviews are extremely favourable.

This bar is a good choice if you and your friends have already been out to dinner elsewhere.
