Top 6 Places for Pancakes in London

Like Eggs Benedict, pancakes are something many Brits like to claim as somewhat native to the country, despite no one having nay way of knowing where this dish really originated.

I will say there’s nothing quite like waking up in the British capital and scoffing down a hearty batch of sticky, hot pancakes fresh off the grill. If this sounds of interest to you, then these are the pancake joints you need to check out while in town.

1. The Breakfast Club Soho in London

The Breakfast Club is one of those consistent breakfast and brunch spots that you know you can go to whenever you’re too lazy to be more creative about your morning. There are branches all over the city, but the one I frequent is right here in Soho.

Most people initially come here having been promised phenomenal Eggs Benedict; I did myself, until I saw the pancake stacks being served to tables around me.

You’ll find it hard not to order both dishes, they are exceptional and great to share as a sweet and savory feast with a friend or partner.

The pancakes can also be optioned in both sweet and savory themselves; banana caramel, bacon and egg, berries and cream — the option are endless.

OPENING HOURS: Monday to Sunday — 7:30am to 10pm
ADDRESS: 33 D’Arblay St, Soho, London W1F 8EU, United Kingdom

2. Where The Pancakes Are in London

The name of this spot says it all. Where The Pancakes Are is the only pancake house we need in central London, in my opinion. It’s just next to the London Bridge; making it a hot-spot for tourists finishing up their guided walking tours.

If you come for breakfast, come before 8:30am. If you come for brunch, get here before 10:30am. Both instances will contribute to you avoiding the queues that form thereafter, and getting your meals in a timely fashion.

They have more pancake options than you are probably prepared to contemplate. They also allow you to mix both sweet and savory toppings for the best of both worlds; the proportions are too generous for one individual to order two separate plates.

They are known for their blueberry bacon stacks, but I love a good cheesy berry compote mix. Astounding vegan options, too!

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
OPENING HOURS: Monday to Sunday — 8am to 6pm
ADDRESS: Arch 35a, 85a Southwark Bridge Rd, London SE1 0NQ, United Kingdom
METRO STATION: London Bridge

3. My Old Dutch in London

One contender to Where The Pancakes Are is My Old Dutch over in Kensignton.

This traditional Dutch pancake house has made an effort to cater to all different dietary requirements. Vegans, vegetarians, meat eaters and gluten free individuals are well included on their very extensive menu.

The stacks are so fluffy, you’ll quickly learn why there is a difference between Dutch pancakes and the rest of the world’s. They also do crepes, if this is more your preference.

They get really busy around 2pm when everyone wants to enjoy an afternoon tea. Dinner dining is also an option here which is fantastic news!

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
OPENING HOURS: Monday to Sunday — 9:30am to 9:30pm
ADDRESS: 16 Kensington Church St, Kensington, London W8 4EP, United Kingdom
METRO STATION: Queensway

4. Sunday in London

Nothing rhymes better with Sunday than bacon & banana pancakes. Not that that rhymes at all, but you get the picture.

Sunday is a pleasant little eatery that specializes in breakfast and brunch foods from all around the world. They are served throughout the day in a very vibrant, communal space.

Fancy Turkish Eggs? How about toast from France? The kippers are great, as are the corn fritters too! But we came for pancakes didn’t we?

Thick, bulky stacks of delicious hot cakes topped with your preference of either sweet, savory or fruity. It’s left to chef’s recommendation, and they are always the most impressive dish on the menu once they come out from the kitchen and are placed before you.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
OPENING HOURS: Tuesday to Sunday — 8:30am to 6pm
ADDRESS: 169 Hemingford Rd, London N1 1DA, United Kingdom
METRO STATION: Caledonian Road & Barnsbury

5. Ergon Deli in London

The origins of pancakes can actually be traced quite significantly back to ancient Greek and Roman times. If this is true, then it explains why Greek-style pancakes are so phenomenal.

One place to get them in London is the Ergon Deli; a Greek-owned space with a menu to match.

They top their pancakes with a thick layer of greek yoghurt; so thick one might mistake it for whipped cream. Fresh berries are always the final touch, and these are some pancakes you won’t forget.

Combining your brunch here with a guided walking tour through Soho would be an excellent idea.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
OPENING HOURS: Monday to Sunday — 8am to 7pm
ADDRESS: 15 Maddox St, Mayfair, London W1S 2QQ, United Kingdom
METRO STATION: Bond Street

6. Pickle & Rye in London

Over to another land who no doubt love a good debate as to why pancakes started with them. This American-style diner in East Sheen does pancakes just like you see in the movies: wide, misshapen, and drenched in maple syrup.

You can get your flat cakes filled with chocolate chips or blueberries, or you can have them plain and put the chocolate and blueberries on the side. If you’re a meat lover, then their bacon and syrup stack will probably make your heart soar; and maybe a bit physically sore too, syrup and pork is quite the acidic combination.

I loved the blueberry stack topped with banana and syrup. Simple, but satisfying as the first meal of the day.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
OPENING HOURS: Tuesday to Sunday — 10am to 9:30pm
ADDRESS: 31 Sheen Ln, East Sheen, London SW14 8AB, United Kingdom
