Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex was born on August 4, 1981, in West Park Hospital, Canoga Park, Los Angeles, California, U.S. She is a daughter to Thomas Markle Sr. (father) and Doria Ragland (mother).

She was first married to Trevor Engelson from 2011 to 2013 when they divorced. Later in 2018, she married Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and they are together to date.

Meghan is a former American Actress. Her acting career started at Northwestern University; however, she stopped acting due to her marriage to Prince Harry back in 2018 when she became part of the royal family and became known as the Duchess of Sussex.

1. She is a Foodie

The princess loves food hence she is a natural in the kitchen. When talking to Maria Claire she said she loves to cook and is always ready to find new recipes.

2. She Grew Up on a Television Set

The Los Angeles actress grew up watching her father work on television at a young age. When she was talking to Esquire she said that her dad was the alighting director and director of photography for Married….with Children.

She said “everyday after school for ten years, I was on the set of Married…with Children, which is a really funny and perverse place for a little girl in a Catholic school uniform to grow up. There were a lot of times my dad would say, ‘Meg, why don’t you go and help with the craft services room over there? This is just a little -off-colour for your 11 years old eyes,’”

3. The Princess Got Involved in Advocacy Work at Age of 11.

When Duchess Markle was only 11 years, she spoke about ‘unknowingly and somehow accidentally’ during the UN Women’s ‘20th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference of Women in Beijing’ in 2015 hence becoming a female advocate.

This was after seeing a Procter and Gamble commercial that suggested women were responsible for doing the dishes.

4. Meghan Markle Lost Her Second Pregnancy

In May 2019, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their son Archie and a lot of happiness was felt in the air. However, on November 2020, Duchess Meghan revealed that she was pregnant with their second child but sadly they lost the pregnancy.

The miscarriage happened in July 2020. She shared the heartbreaking story and how it was hard for her to move on with a powerful piece for the New York Times. However, despite the loss and hard times, Meghan went through the conversation remains taboo and riddled with shame.

5. Redesigned Her Engagement Ring

Meghan changed the design of her engagement ring given to her by Prince Harry her current husband. According to Prince Harry during their engagement interview, Meghan Markle’s engagement ring featured a centre diamond from Botswana, flanked by diamonds from his mother’s collection.

The ring was one of the things Meghan Inherited from Princess Diana. Other things that she inherited include Meghan dons butterfly earrings for a special tour and Diana’s gold bracelet on the tour among others.

In 2019 people noticed the changes in her ring through her ring photos. The yellow gold band has been altered to a micro-pave one, a row of tiny diamonds on the band meaning she redesigned it.

6. She is a Lover of Wine and She Named her Blog after a Wine

The princess discovered her love for wine and named her lifestyle blog after a wine ‘The Tig’. The name Tig comes from a wine known as Tignanello, which she disclosed to Allure in 2017.

She said the first day she sipped this wine was one of her happy moments. So, the Tig was the ideal name to name her fashion, travel, and beauty blog. However, she had to close her blog when she became a member of the royal family.

7. She Received Criticism Over her Background

Since Meghan was born in a family of a black mother and white dad she faced criticism over her background when her relationship with Prince Harry became public.

However, this was not the first time she encountered this discrimination. When she was writing about it in Elle, she spoke about a form she was asked to fill out in school indicating her ethnicity and you were only allowed to choose one which was not possible for her since choosing one means choosing one-half of her over the other. She ended up living her identity blank.

Since she was a former actress raised in Los Angeles she as well faced bias in getting roles since she was not black enough for black roles nor white enough for the white ones among others.

8. Megan was Body-Shamed for her Post Baby Body

Meghan has been criticized since a young age. That never changed even when she became a Duchess and an official member of the Royal family people kept on criticizing her.

When she was applauded at the Lion King premiere for her real-life post-baby body people criticized her body and attacked her for how she was holding the baby, Archie at a polo match.

The critics said the baby was in a bad position and it looks like she was about to drop him. However, the paediatrician confirmed there was nothing wrong with how she had held the baby.

9. Loves Animals

Meghan has been a lover of animals for so long and she adopted two rescue dogs before moving across the pond. It was not surprising when she chose an animal welfare program as one of her official charities.

She says she knows the joy that comes with adopting an animal into your home since she was a rescue dog owner. This is one of her positive actions to love animals since they need our care and protection.

10. She Resigned From her Loyal Titles
