The 6 Best Vintage Shops in London

Vintage shopping in London Town; what a treat it is.

You can trust that one of the world’s four fashion capitals has enough vintage clothing stowed away to last a life time. Depending on which part of town each garment has landed up in, you can expect to find pieces from anywhere between £3 and £3000.

If you’re ready to sift through the rails, read on. These are six of the best vintage spots in London.

1. House Of Vintage in London

For true vintage lovers there is no greater place to be than strolling down Brick Lane with vintage and second hand shops coming at you from all angles.

The House of Vintage might be my favorite vintage spot on the strip, though it does contend closely with Serotonin Vintage that I will come to in a minute.

They like to focus on classical fashion where they can. They collect name branded garments from the 50s, 60s and onward, as well as custom made gowns & evening wear from the same era.

It’s a real treasure trove, and you can find one of a kind classic ensembles that become part of your lifelong wardrobe. Everyone needs a pair of trusty black slacks, or a quality white vest that won’t tarnish after three washes.

What I’m trying to say is that House of Vintage isn’t fast fashion that you buy with your leftover change from lunch. It’s a vintage investment.

2. Beyond Retro in London

Soho is another neighborhood not to be overlooked by vintage lovers. There aren’t a plethora of vintage shops within these streets, but one can find some real gems if they know where to go.

Just outside of the Oxford Circus Underground is Beyond Retro. It’s a quirky, fun space filled with vintage that has clearly been collected for a very long time.

There are two levels to this store; collections are a mix of branded pieces and one of a kind novelty items. If you’re in the market for denim jeans, denim overalls, cowboy boots, authentic leather shoes or vintage leather jackets then this is your spot.

3. Serotonin Vintage in London

Back to Shoreditch we go for that close contender I mentioned earlier. If you take any kind of guided walking tour down Brick Lane then you’ll pass right by Serotonin Vintage.

While they too try to curate their pieces around preloved name brands where possible, they also have a more retro, skater, 90s grunge appeal to everything that they hold.

Think mini skirts from Coyote Ugly, or skater boots worn by Avril Lavigne during that whole era. If you haven’t noticed, the 90s are quickly creeping right back into fashion and Serotonin Vintage will be right there when you need them.

What’s surprising about Serotonin is their prices. Everything is extremely reasonable; one can easily get a pair of designer jeans for just £40.

4. Deborah Woolf Vintage Archive in London

Of course not everyone is going to hop on the 90s fashion bandwagon when it rolls back into town. You’ll always have the more classic fashion lovers who prefer the prairie girl or 70s housewife attire, and for this we head to Deborah Woolf.

Deborah Woolf Vintage Archive is in Marylebone. The collection of garments is very on brand with the afore mentioned categories; think print dresses from the 20s upward, jewelry your grandmother probably owned and hats made for horseraces.

Lest not forget the sequin jackets and sparkly gloves from the flapper era. Or the original pant suits from when women first started challenging the “pants are for men” norms.

This shop is a powerhouse of the ages. A proper vintage wonderland where you can really let your self expression loose.

5. Paper Dress Vintage in London

Trust the district of Hackney to bring us one of the most creative vintage concept stores in the country.

This space is about so much more than just vintage clothing; it’s a window into the bygone eras and a place of preservation for times that a lot of us weren’t around to experience.

You’ll shop, you’ll drink coffee, and perhaps you’ll even dance in their back courtyard that offers entertainment until late into the evening. On Friday and Saturday nights they are open until 3am.

Rokit sits quietly between all the Camden High Street chaos, offering thousands of vintage garments across two stories of store space.
