Late Night Dining in London

It’s London, it’s late, and you’re in dire need of something to settle your stomach until morning come.

We may not have all been there yet, but it’s nice to know that when it happens there are ample places to eat in London after midnight strikes. Some spots, in fact, never even close.

For late night/early morning dining these are the eateries one needs to know about:

Balans Soho Society Café in London

London’s West End doesn’t really ever sleep. Even in the dead of winter this is known as an action-packed neighborhood where there is always something to see, do, or eat… even at four in the morning.

The Balans Soho Society Cafe has been catering this area for quite some time, and because of its 24 hour status its popularity is ever increasing.

That’s right, Balans never closes. They took the concept of “all day breakfast” and made it literal; pancakes at 3am? Bacon and eggs an hour later? Why not.

During normal opening hours like lunch and dinner, this is an incredibly vibrant space where friends and families come to dine together while out and about in Soho. Because of it’s ability to draw tourists, there are many attractions and guided walking tours in the neighborhood daily.

OPENING HOURS: Monday to Sunday — 24 Hours

Duck & Waffle in London

It’s rare for Brits to dine late night unless they’ve been drinking in a pub all evening, but mention late night dining to anyone local and they all know to recommend the Duck and Waffle.

This is London’s most renowned late night dining experience. The restaurant is at the top of a 40-story building right in the city center. The views are indescribable, and the fact that one can dine here 24 hours a day is equally as unexpected.

What does one eat at the Duck & Waffle in the early hours of the morning? Why a duck waffle of course.

The menu is traditional British with emphasis on breakfast and brunch. The pancakes and waffles are some of the best in the city, but if you walked in at 3am wanting a full lamb shank you could have that too.

METRO STATION: Liverpool Street

MEATliquor W1 in London

Those tipsy Brits leaving the pub will never actually make the mission to Duck & Waffle for lamb shanks late at night, instead they come to MEATliquor, the rowdy diner just off Oxford Circus.

Even guided walking tours that pass by this spot during the day are drawn by its energy. As the name suggests, the focus is on meat and liquor, and these are served until 3am daily.

Burgers, hotdogs, pints and fries are basically all you need to know before you arrive. This is hardly a vegetarian friendly place, but I know a few who will never object a big bowl of French fries and a cold beer after the local bar closes up.

This is not a wind-down spot by any means, things get loud, people get obnoxious (sorry), but for late night dining in London it’s definitely an experience.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
OPENING HOURS: Monday to Sunday — 11:30am to 3am
ADDRESS: 37-38 Margaret St, Marylebone, London W1G 0JF, United Kingdom
METRO STATION: Oxford Circus

The Laughing Heart in London

Those looking for that wind-down experience will find peace inside the Laughing Heart. Most ideal for anyone scouring the streets of Shoreditch late into the evening, the Laughing Heart is open until 2am everyday except for Sundays.

This is a chic and cool wine bar with an artisan menu including Vietnamese noodles, goat fillet and even oysters.

Even if you opt not to eat, one can enjoy a pleasant nightcap here before retreating to bed after your night out, as many do. A dessert is also always a good idea!

Lahore Kebab House in London

All over Europe, kebab houses are generally the most reliable of places when it’s late at night and you need to find food. They are typically small, hole-in-the-wall type eateries with little seating space and over the counter service; and the food is always great!

Lahore Kebab House is in Shadwell and is taking the concept of these spaces to new levels. It’s a giant, full sized restaurant space with sit-down service until 1am daily.

They do traditional Middle Eastern kebab, curries from India and Pakistan & a variety of grilled meats with salad & breads. There is something for everyone here, including vegans.

Tinseltown in London

Tinseltown is a late night diner in London that everyone should experience at least once. It’s a retro themed space; like a diner you’d find in an 80s Spielberg film. It’s fabulous, and easy to see why they are able to serve food all the way through until 4am every day.

The menu is traditional American-style diner food; burgers, fries, hotdogs, wings, waffles and shakes.

If you can’t get here late at night, but do happen to stop by during the week; there is a weekday lunch special for £7.99 that gets you a burger, a side, a dip and a drink of your choice. Unfortunately shakes aren’t considered a drink and will cost a few extra pounds — still worth it!
