There are many themed attraction located in or near London. From thrilling rides through history to wild animals, London’s theme parks offer great entertainment for both families and groups. Most theme attracted are located outside of London but can be easily reached by train, coach or car. Here are 6 of the best attractions.

Legoland Windsor

Legoland Windsor is a family theme park dedicated to all things Lego. It encourages creativity and imagination for children of all ages. There are so many things to do in Legoland. You can learn to drive a Lego car, or ride the dragon in the Dragon Knight’s Castle. With more than 55 interactive attractions, Legoland is the perfect day out for the family. It offers a variety of different attractions, from rides, shows, Lego building rooms and even has model cities built entirely from Lego.

It is just half an hour to Windsor & Eton Central from London Paddington via Slough.
Alternatively it is direct from London Waterloo to Windsor and Eton Riverside and takes approximately an hour – There is a shuttle bus service to the park close to both these stations.

Opening times: 10 am to 17:00 (early close) – 19:00 (late close)
The park is closed during the winter months. It is open between March and early November.

London Dungeon

The London Dungeon is a popular attraction located along the South Bank which recreates various gory and dark historical events in a black humour style. It uses a mixture of live actors, special effects and rides.

Visitors can discover all about London’s dark history in this immersive attraction documenting 1000 years of London’s past. There are 18 interactive shows with 20 live theatre actors and two rides guiding you through London’s past. You can visit the Medieval torture chamber or walk the Whitechapel maze with Jack the Ripper.

Shrek’s Adventure London

Discover the world of Shrek and his friends in the Kingdom of Far Far Away. Shrek’s Adventure London is an indoor walk and ride attraction inspired by the DreamWorks film. The attraction brings to life the world of Shrek and friends. The tour combines live shows and also classic sets from the Shrek films with captivating storytelling, a 4-D ride, dramatic special effects and exceptional animation.

You can board the magical 4-D flying bus driven by Donkey as you become the hero of the story and go on a quest to find Shrek. First you will visit Shrek’s swamp and try to find Shrek. In order to find him you will need to follow the clues in each of the attractions.  You will go from room to room including the Poison Apple Pub, where you’ll meet Puss in Boots and the wheel of fortune before eventually finding him in the end.

Children are sure to love this attraction as we meet all the characters in a fun and entertaining experience.

It is located next to the London Dungeon on the South Bank.

The London Bridge Experience

Located within the vaults of the original London Bridge, this attraction traces the 2000 year history of one of the most famous bridges. In this attraction you will be able to see, hear and even smell what this famous bridge was like throughout history.

Led by a team of actors, you will go from the Roman times, to the Vikings to the Great Fire of London, to a Victorian Boneyard. As you come across different characters you will tear down the old Viking Bridge and meet the keeper of the heads. Later you will encounter the scare maze in the London Tombs, where you will creep around the haunted catacombs as zombies leap out from the darkness. This is an immersive experience which focuses on the gruesome side of London Bridge’s long history.

It was the winner of the world’s best scare attraction 2017 and holder of the UK’s best scare attraction for the past 11 years.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter

Explore behind the scenes secrets of the Harry Potter film series. You will be able to step onto authentic film sets and discover the special effects magical tour. The tour offers visitors the unique opportunity to explore two sound stages and all the original sets and props.

The Hogwarts Great Hall is  an iconic location that you will be able to discover along with others including the Forbidden Forest, Diagon Alley and Platform 9 3/4.

The studios are the location where all 8 of the films were produced, and showcases the best of British artistry and creativity that goes into making these films. It is somewhere that is not to be missed for fans of Harry Potter.

Thorpe Park

Thorpe Park is a popular theme park located just outside of London. Home to over 30 rides and attractions, it is a great destination for thrill seekers.

Among the rollercoasters is Stealth, the UK’s fastest rollercoaster which goes from 0 to 80mph in 2 seconds. Colossus is world’s first 10 loop roller coaster and includes a vertical loop, cobra loop, double corkscrew and the UK’s only quadruple barrel role. The Nemesis Inferno is the only inverted rollercoaster in Thorpe Park, with 4 inversions. It is themed around an erupting tropical volcano, with speeds of 50mph and a length of 750 and 29m high.

The newest highlight of the park is Derren Brown’s Ghost Train and is designed by Derren Brown himself. On this 13 minute ghost train ride, everyone’s experience is unique and different and affected by your own fears. Illusions and and special effects all play a part and make your head spin.

The nearest train station to Thorpe Park is Staines, which can be accessed via London Waterloo and takes around 30-50 minutes. From there you can take the 950 express bus which goes to Thorpe Park Resort and runs every 15-20 minutes.
