Ropewalks which is also  referred to as ‘Liverpool’s Independent Quarter’. since it’s has been the home of numerous independent businesses of all sorts, from restaurants and bars to vintage shops and art stores.

It has been  tucked within the Riverside Ward of Liverpool. Ropewalks which  was given its curious name as a nod to the craft of rope-making for sailor ships in the 19th century. It’s no surprise that this was a large industry for the area at the time, considering its waterside location. You could easily spend an entire day in Ropewalks wandering in and out of shops, restaurants and historic streets.

1. Visit the St Luke’s Church known as the bombed out church

It is the most fascinating landmarks Ropewalks. The St. Luke’s church which has been  often referred to as the ‘Bombed Out Church’. It’s has been called such because it had  significantly damaged during the May Blitz of 1941. Only the building’s external structure which  remained, but 60 years later, the site was cleaned up and repurposed into a cultural events space.

2. Explore the blue coat extraordinary building

It is the UK’s oldest center for contemporary arts. In the 1700s, the building  which was founded as Blue Coat Hospital, which was a charity school for orphans. Artists began to move into the building in 1907 after the school relocated to a new location.  

The old building has listed a long programme of visual art, literature, music, dance and live art. Alongside all the culture they  have a café, restaurant and a series of independent shops to have a look around and a courtyard to soak up the sun.

3.Explore the Bold Street

This is  another popular street in Liverpool  which is  the Bold Street.  The Bold street which has some great bars and cafes. It’s has been  surrounded by the Ropewalks area, which is filled with bars and is one of the favorite nightlife spots.

Places to visit on Bold Street include: Mowgli for some excellent Indian street food. The Leaf for colorful café vibes and live music. Including the  Maray for small plates, and Bold Street Coffee for one of the city’s best brews.

Bold Street which  is headed by St. Luke’s Church, more commonly known as the ‘Bombed out Church’, which regularly holds events. And at the other end is Liverpool One, a huge shopping complex of all the high street brands.

4. Visit the Duke Street Market 

Liverpool’s newest street food market is the Duke Street Market. It is taking the city by storm, and with good reason. The warehouse turned food emporium  which is a home to six food stalls and a sixty seat restaurant. Alongside a florist and an area for the kids to hang out in.

 5. Take an adventure and explore the Chinatown

Liverpool’s Chinatown on Nelson Street at the top of Duke Street. And explore one of Europe’s oldest and largest Chinese communities. It’s would be  hard to miss as you are greeted by the traditional Chinese arch that was imported from Shanghai and celebrates the twinning of the two cities. 

The arch  does not only welcomes you into Chinatown,  but  also it  celebrates the twinning of two cities, Liverpool and Shanghai. Standing at 15 meters tall and adorned in over 200 dragons. It is a beautiful way to enter Chinatown and celebrate the rich culture.

6.Enjoy the Ropewalk’s AWARD-WINNING coffee shop 

The Ropery Coffee Shop, only a short distance from the hustle and bustle of Barton town center. It is the perfect place to enjoy home cooked food in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Fresh local produce  which was used to create a wide variety vegetarian snacks and light lunches. The coffee shop  usually use the  locally sourced and Fairtrade produce making sure that our ‘food miles’ are low and our taste quality is high.

Its currently offering  freshly filled baguettes, along with crisps, biscuits and hot and cold drinks, to take away in addition to our already extensive Ropery Coffee Shop menu.

7. Visit the Ropewalk Museum

 The Museum pays tribute to the history of the rope making factory. Hall’s Barton Ropery which dates back to between 1800 and 1803 with the building of a “modern” rope works. 

The Ropewalk Museum has been  part of The Ropewalk arts center which is housed in the Grade II listed building which stretches a quarter of a mile along the length of Barton Haven. Now an Accredited Museum which contains displays of artifacts. And other memorabilia associated with the history of the factory and its workforce.

8. Tour and attend a concert at  the concert Square

Concert Square which has been  a square located between Wood Street and Fleet Street. In the Ropewalks area of Liverpool City Centre, England. The square and the immediate surrounding area which  is often referred to as the heart of Liverpool’s nightlife. 

9. Explore the FACT cinema Gallery

Along the Bold Street you’ll find FACT. It’s the UK’s leading gallery showcasing everything in film, video and new media. Exhibitions at FACT  have been developed by a range of international artists often with very thought provoking themes. 

FACT  which has been a  home to a cinema showing all the latest blockbusters and independent films, a bar and The Garden café making it the perfect place to spend an afternoon. 

10. Get to party in one of the Ropewalk’s Bar

Ropewalks is one of the best parts of the city to head for a drink. There is a bar for every occasion.

Head down Seel street for bars like Heebie Jeebies, Kazimier Gardens and Pogue. Try to have a  Mahones for a chill drink or step into concert square for an al fresco refreshment in the day turning into a dance in one of the clubs in the evening.
