They are all different. The tips you are about to read about are the ones I think applies to most of them. Feel free to share your thoughts!
Have a sense of humor
First of all, you need to know that Portuguese men enjoy a good laugh. A lot! If you do have a sense of humor, I’m sure he will enjoy your time together even more.
Humor is your best tool to break the ice and to set a more laid-back atmosphere between you.
I’m pretty sure making him laugh will seduce him and make him more enticed.
Honesty is key to a healthy relationship. Make sure you’re always honest with him, since it is very appreciated by the Portuguese men.
Plus, you will feel much better about yourself. There’s no need to disguise anything. Be true to yourself and to him.
They love their mama’s food
Portuguese men usually love their mum’s food. If you happen to be a good cook, I guess you will definitely win his heart.
Portuguese people have very strong family values. If you spend several months in Portugal and get to hang out with Portuguese families, you will see that they truly appreciate to get together, have endless sunday lunches.
During family gatherings, such as sunday lunches, the table gets filled with traditional dishes and desserts. From the traditional assado, polvo à lagareiro, to desserts like pudim, leite creme, mama’s food is the best!
Being able to cook at least one of your Portuguese man favorite dishes is definitely one of the best ways to make him appreciate you even more. He will love all your qualities, but cooking like his mama will surely be a bonus!
For a relationship to be healthy and for you to feel good about it, you need to be able to be yourself.
Don’t be afraid to show your true self. If you do and it doesn’t work out, at least you’ll know you two weren’t supposed to be.
What I advise you to do is to be as loyal as possible to yourself right from the beginning. Let loose and show yourself.
Hate the same things
Next on my top 10 tips to date Portuguese men is a tiny bit controversial, but it is to hate the same things. It may sound weird, but it simply means you two have common interests and disagreements!
For any relationship to work, I think it is important that the two persons involved have a few topics they agree or disagree on together.
If you two are too divided or opposed, the relationship may not last very long. There might be too many conflicts between you.
Trying to surprise him from time to time is an excellent way to turn any relationship into an interesting one. Get him out of his comfort zone, make unexpected moves, be passionate and let him know how you feel.
We mostly regret the things we did not get to do, rather than the ones we’ve actually done. Take your chance and don’t be afraid to take the first step.
They usually are very friendly
From my experience, I can say that most of my male friends are very friendly, funny and outgoing. They love to spend time with their friends, which is totally normal.
The Portuguese men are great company! Although they tend to get a little lazy or too comfortable over time, you won’t have a single boring day. They are the funniest I know and can improve any bad day.
Even if you’re not dating one, you should at least have a Portuguese friend, because they are the coolest. Yes, I am setting high expectations!
Give him space
Each of you has to have some time alone from one another. It is important that you find some time to be on your own or with friends and relatives. This will allow you to better appreciate the time you spend together.
When people are deprived from personal space, the relationship can get a little too overwhelming and you end up losing touch with yourselves. It is unhealthy and you should avoid it. Being in a relationship is wonderful but being able to give each other space is as important as the feeling you have for one another. Don’t underestimate it!
Confidence is essential if you want your relationship to work out. Feeling insecure often leads to low self-esteen, insecurity, jealousy and possessiveness.
Some people enjoy feeling this kind of emotions from their partner but, in most cases, it can ruin the relationship, especially if you two get along. It’s like setting fire to your own house.
Communication is also very important, so you should just set some boundaries, make sure you respect them and everything should be okay.
I don’t mean you should not feel this type of emotions, we all are humans and sometimes we have impulsive reactions, in particular when we feel attacked or hurt. Talk it out and don’t overthink or overreact. We frequently make a mountain out of a molehill, when we care about a person.
Give him attention
Last but not the least: It’s as simple as that, give him attention. Be present and attentive, but you should really mean it. Sometimes we end up in lousy relationship, because we expect it to fulfill some kind of void. Check if you two are on the same page and willing to be present for each other. The tiniest details and the simplest attentions can build great and strong relationships.
