This is an extremely diverse and integrated school, that much is for sure. Like all old institutions in Europe, there are remnants of Catholic influence to some degree, but never anything provocative or controversial.

Universidade Nova de Lisboa in Lisbon

Nova is Lisbon’s institute of art and technology. It’s the newest university in Lisbon, and is fairly young in comparison to the rest. 

This doesn’t take away from the school’s impressive curriculum and extensive range of courses. They have schools in the areas of Social and Human Sciences, Medical, Technologies, Economy and Marketing. 

Their campuses are spread across different parts of Lisbon, as well as in Carcavelos and Costa da Caparica. They have tried to make their teachings as widely available as possible, helping out students who may not have the means to move away from home just to study.

Instituto Universitário de Lisboa in Lisbon

Also known as ISCTE, or the Lisbon Universitary Institute, this is the place to be if you’re looking to study in the fields of Social Sciences, Management or Economy.

The campus is extensive, and sits in the north of the city, close to the neighborhood known as Alvalade. It’s a student town for sure, with a lively street vibe and affordable housing for those who seek it. 

This is a public university, so locals get preference. However thanks to the size of the institution, international scholars are rarely turned away. There are 16 undergraduate courses to choose from, and past students still review their positive time at this institution.

If you’re worried about being the only student from your home country — don’t. This is such a diverse school, just about everyone finds a crew to flock with that is familiar with their homeland, or actually from there.
