10 Great Clothing Stores in Chiado

Chiado (in conjunction with Rossio and Baixa) is the shopping district of Lisbon’s city center. It is situated directly between Lisbon’s entertainment district of Bairro Alto, and historic district of the Alfama.

Chiado is a tourism saturated part of town where you’ll rarely find locals hanging out. It’s where travelers come to eat, visit a few landmarks, maybe take a free guided walking tour and then blow some euros on shopping.

You can buy virtually anything in Chiado, from souvenirs to second hand books. Clothing is the most prominent range of items on offer out here, and these are the stores to look out for.

1. Brandy Melville in Chiado

As you leave Chiado and begin to enter the lower end of Bairro Alto, you’ll find this widely loved little store targeted at femme clothing.

Brandy Melville is the clothing envy of tweens and teenagers in the western world. Most of the items are best suited to the youth, but you can find a lot of great basics here too like plain vests or camisoles.

Targeting a more mature femme audience, Mango sits in north Chiado and is somehow always a calm, welcoming space when the streets of the district are chaotic with foot traffic.

Best suited for anyone in need of semi-formal to formal attire.

3. Traces of Me in Chiado

Moving away from big name brands, Traces of Me caters to the natural fabric, earth textured clothing loving community in Lisbon.

They sell unisex clothing, accessories and home items all made sustainable and with love. The best store in Chiado for anyone who loves the bohemian lifestyle and unique attire that few people other people will be seen wearing.

4. Zara in Chiado

Zara doesn’t need much of an introduction or explanation. What I will say is that visiting this unisex fashion house in Lisbon is cheaper than most other cities in Europe. During their sale periods you can walk away with clothing for as little as €5.

This multistory store in Chiado is always busy, and takes a lot of patience to work your way through in its entirety. A store suitable for men, women, teens and even children.

Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday – 10am to 8pm
ADDRESS: R. Garrett 1-9, 1200-203 Lisboa, Portugal

5. H&M in Chiado

Like Zara, H&M needs little explanation to its presence in the heart of Chiado.

Another multistory facility with clothing for people of all genders and ages, H&M in Lisbon is a great spot for affordable emergency vacation clothing, like if you forgot to pack that bikini!

6. Bershka in Chiado

I find that Bershka often goes overshadowed by its competitors like H&M and Forever 21. It’s a much smaller chain of stores, but the quality is much better than the others and of this I am confident.

The Portuguese love Bershka, especially the younger generations. Another spot that is great for last minute necessities during a foreign vacation.

7. Stradivarius in Chiado

The best way to equate Stradivarius would be to imagine H&M, Zara and Bershka making a lovechild that was less gentrified, less generic, and of far better quality.

There are actually tow Stradivarius store locations in Chiado, one in the upper region and one in the lower.

8. El Ganso in Chiado

I loved el Ganso the first time I wandered on in while shopping in Chiado. From the outside it’s easy to overlook as it doesn’t have the same loud exteriors that most of the stores in Chiado tend to hold; once inside you’ll find it hard to leave empty-handed.

This is a store targeted at a mature shopping audience. Think sundresses, chino pants, tailored shirts. Nothing at el Ganso is made in extreme bulk meaning you won’t have to see every other person in Lisbon wearing the same polo dress as you throughout your vacation.

Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday – 10am to 8pm
ADDRESS: R. Nova do Almada 79, 1200-288 Lisboa, Portugal
Metro STATION: Baixa-Chiado

9. Oysho in Chiado

Oysho is tucked away just below the Santa Justa Elevator in Chiado .

It looks and feels a lot like H&M. I’ll leave you to pass further analysis on your own.

10. A Outra Face da Lua in Chiado

A Outra Face da Lua is my favorite clothing store in Chiado.

It’s curated and hand selected vintage; meaning that everything is of impeccable quality and largely on trend. You’ll find everything from women’s to men’s, accessories and even shoes.

The clothing is housed around a central area where there is a communal cafe that does hot drinks and light meals. A fabulous concept store centered around both thrift shopping and cafe dining.
