10 Best Bars in Lisbon

One thing Lisbon does better than pastéis de nata, is nightlife.

Between all of the restaurants, nightclubs and bars, your evenings will be full up with things to do and see (and eat… and drink).

The following bars are 10 of the best, featured in no particular order other than how my memory recalled them one by one… read on!

1. Pensão Amor in Lisbon

As far as bars in lower Lisbon go, Pensão Amor has always been my most memorable. The inside is like sex museum meets a Parisian jazz lounge (you’ll see), and you’ll drink fancy cocktails to your hearts’s content.

It’s a peculiar spot that gets very, very full; it’s one of few bars in this area that are open until 3am, seven days a week.

Times: Monday to Sunday — 2pm to 3am
ADDRESS: R. do Alecrim 19, 1200-292 Lisboa, Portugal
Metro STATION: Cais do Sodre

2. Pavilhão Chinês in Lisbon

There is something about museum-themed bars in Lisbon; this one further north also looks like a collection of salvaged art and antiques.

It’s housed in an old supermarket, and the bar is spread across five different rooms. It’s a visual masterpiece; there are even toys from both World Wars on display.

You need to get to Pavilhão Chinês as early as possible if you want to get a spot. It’s a half bar, half restaurant situation, so having dinner here from early evening is a good way of guaranteeing you’re inside before the crowds show up.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Times: Monday TO Sunday —  5pm to 12am
ADDRESS: R. Dom Pedro V 89, 1250-093 Lisboa, Portugal
Metro STATION: Rato

3. Foxtrot in Lisbon

Foxtrot is a bar just west of Bairro Alto. Its designed impeccably, like an Art Nouveau-style cellar. There is an outdoor area, and Foxtrot serves food all through until clothing hour, making it a great spot for late night dining.

The cocktails are tasty, but pricy. Worth it for a night out with someone whose company you value.

5. 4 Caravelas in Lisbon

4 Caravelas is one of the most low-key spots you’ll drink at in Lisbon, but there is something so charming about this establishment that I pop in whenever I’m near to Cais do Sodre.

If you’re in the mood for a more chill, controlled environment whilst visiting Lisbon’s Pink Street, check out 4 Caravelas.

6. Pink Wine Point in Lisbon

Another bar on Lisbon’s infamous Pink Street, the Pink Wine Point has a cave-like vibe, but a cave that took acid and invented 100 different shades of pink.

It’s a good time; there are always people to drink with, talk to, or dance alongside. There are DJs and live music all weekend long. Expect to meet people from all over the world; this spot has a reputation on the internet, as does the street upon which it sits.

One of the least ostentatious bars in all of Bairro Alto, Janela Da Atalaia is for fabulous cocktails, good conversation, and bed before midnight!

8. Páginas Tantas in Lisbon

A few streets down, also in Bairro Alto, is the second best bar in the district. This is a jazz bar, with little to look at in terms of aesthetics, but always great fun nonetheless.

There is a live band here from Tuesdays to Sundays. It’s never too loud, rarely too full, and drinks are wonderfully affordable.

Lounge is technically a bar, but it can feel like a nightclub some nights of the week. It’s high energy, laid back, and all about the good vibes.

Expect anything in terms of music; could be a night of 80s disco, or even hard electronic until the early hours of the morning. Just come to have a good time — leave all expectations at home!
