Avram Grant is an Israeli professional football coach, he was born on 6 May 1955,  in  Petah Tikva, and he has spent most of his life as a football coach in Israel.

Grant is a son of Meir Granat and Aliza Nisan, his father was a Jewish immigrant from Poland.

1. Avram Grant has Spent Most of His Life as a Football coach

Grant’s professional coaching career started at age 18, in 1972, as the youth coach of his hometown team, Hapoel Petah Tikva.

In his senior coaching career, Grant spent 14 years in the Israel premier league, coaching five different teams, and winning four leagues titles in the process

In 2002, Grant was appointed as Israel’s national team coach, becoming the youngest coach ever to manage the team. He spent 3 years as a national team coach.

Grant has coached other 5 different teams from 3 different countries. currently, he is the head coach of North East United FC in the Indian super league.

Avram Grant was appointed as Israel national team in 2002, replacing the former Denmark coach Richard Moller Nielsen.

The team participated in Group 1 of the UEFA Euro 2004 qualifying round but finished third and so did not take part in the Euro finals hosted in Portugal.

He also led Israel national team in the qualifying matches for the 2006 world. the team failed to qualify after finishing third in their group behind Germany and Switzerland.

On 27 November 2014, Grant was appointed as head coach of the Ghanaian national football team.

At the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, he led Ghana up to the final, where they were beaten in a penalty shoot-out by Ivory Coast, after drawing in normal and extra time.

3. Avram Grant is the First Israeli to Manage an English Premier League Club

On 20 September 2007, Grant was appointed as the manager of the Chelsea football club becoming the first Israeli to manage an English football club.

On 30 April 2008, Chelsea beat Liverpool to advance to the UEFA Champions League Final, something they failed to achieve under their former manager.

 In the 2008 UEFA champion league final, Chelsea drew with Manchester United in the normal time, only to lose in a penalty shootout which United won.

Grant parted ways with Chelsea through mutual agreement on 24 May 2008, he went on to manage Portsmouth 2009-2010, and west ham united 2010-2011.

4. Avram Grant Managed Partizan Belgrade

On 13 January 2012, Partizan Belgrade’s board of directors named Avram Grant as the club’s new manager.

 As Grant was set to have his first match as manager of Partizan in a friendly match against Sepahan Isfahan, the friendly match was canceled because Grant is Israeli.

This was due to the fact that the Iranian government does not recognize Israel as a country.

 Grant won Serbian super Liga with the club, despite staying in the club for less than one year.

Avram Grant’s father Meir Granat, was born into a devout orthodox Jewish family in Mlawa Poland.

Meir’s family fled to the Soviet Union in 1941, during the Holocaust; there they were exiled to Kolyma, Siberia.

After the war Meir’s family was repatriated back to Poland in 1945, he later emigrated to the British mandate of Palestine.

 Meir Granat settled in Petah Tikva, where he and Grant’s mother Aliza Nisan, an Iraqi-Jewish immigrant to Israel, met.

On 13 June 2016, following extensive research into his father’s Polish-Jewish heritage, Grant received his Polish passport from the Polish Embassy in London.

He was married to Israeli television personality Tzufit Grant. They have a son and a daughter. The couple has announced they split up in September 2014

Avram Grant was married to Tzufit Grant an Israeli actress and former television host. They have two children together.

Grant is a close friend of the Russian billionaire and former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

Roman Abramovich is a Russian oligarch, businessman, philanthropist, and politician. He is best known outside Russia as the former owner of the Chelsea football club.

In June 2003, Abramovich became the owner of the companies that control Chelsea in West London.

Avram Grant was hired as Chelsea manager in July 2007 and replaced Jose Mourinho who has been with the club for 4 years.

Roman Abramovich sold the club to a new owner in early 2022.

Grant joined Indian Super League side NorthEast United FC as a technical advisor on 4 January 2018 and later became the head coach
