1. Naomi Osaka

Naomi Osaka was born on October 16, 1997, in Chuo-ku, Osaka, Japan. She is a famous Japanese professional tennis player. She has achieved a lot at a young age, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) ranked her as a world Number one in singles and became the first Asian player to hold a search ranking.

She participated in different national representations such as Fed Cup, Hopman Cup and Olympics. Naomi Osaka made her Fed Cup debut for Japan in 2017, and in 2018 Osaka together with Yuichi Sugita made her Hopman Cup debut.

2. Sky Brown

Sky Brown is one of the most famous women in the Japanese. Sky was born on July 7, 2008, in Miyazaki, Japan and she is the youngest professional skateboarder in the world. Sky Brown has never had a coach in skateboarding despite her successful journey, it is surprising to know that she learns the tricks from YouTube.

She had a passion in skateboard since a young age, she participated in the Vans US Open at the age of 8 and became the youngest ever to compete at the event. She has won several awards such as the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award on December 19, 2021, and at the Laureus World Sports Awards, she won the Comeback of the Year award.

3. Marie Kondo

Marie Kondo is known all over Japan. She is a Japanese organizing consultant, TV presenter and author. She was born on October 9, 1984, in Tokyo, Japan. She has been active in her profession from 1997 to date.

She is a successful author; she has four books that have sold millions of copies worldwide. She initially wrote her books in Japanese but they have been translated into several languages increasing the audience.

4. Suzuka Nakamoto

Suzuka Nakamoto is a Japanese Musician, singer, songwriter and model. She has been active in her career since 2007 to date. She is one of the most famous Japanese women and is mostly known as Suzuka or Su-metal her stage name.

She was born on December 20, 1997, in Hiroshima, Japan in a family of three sisters. She is the youngest in the family. She had a common dream with her sister Himeka Nakamoto, they both studied at the Actor’s School Hiroshima and sang together.

5. Ayako Fujitani

When we talk of famous Japanese women it will be unfair to leave Ayako Fujitani behind. She is one of the most famous Japanese actresses. Ayako has been in the field since 1995 and still pushing on.

Fujitani was born and raised in Osaka, Japan and she resided in Los Angeles during her teenager. She has been in different film roles such as Gamera: Guardian of the Universe and Ultraman Max which she worked with director Shusuke Kaneko.

6. Masako, Crown Princess of Japan

Masako is another famous Japanese woman. She became the crown princess of Japan in 1993 when she married Crown Prince Naruhito. Back in 2019, she as well became the empress of Japan.

She is the daughter of Hisashi Owada (a Japanese former jurist, diplomat and law professor) and Yumiko Egashira. She is the firstborn in the family and has two younger twin sisters known as Setsuko and Reiko.

Masako attended Harvard University one of the best-known universities. After her graduation, she went back home, to Japan and joined the University of Tokyo to study law which took six months.

7. Yasuko Namba

Yasuko Namba was born back on February 7, 1949, and died on May 11, 1996. She is one of the most famous women in Japan and left a legacy behind. She is known for being the second woman after Junko Tabei (a Japanese mountaineer, author and teacher) to reach all of the Seven Summits (the highest mountains of each of the seven traditional continents).

Before she involved herself in her hobby of mountaineering she worked for Federal Express (an American multinational conglomerate holding company focused on transportation) in Japan as a businesswoman.

8. Hikaru Utada

Hikaru Utada is a Japanese- American pop singer, producer and songwriter. She has been active in her career from 1996 to 2012 when she took a break and came back in 2016 to date. Hikaru Utada’s career was successful since it didn’t take long for her to be known. By 2010 she was one of the best-selling musical artists in Japan.

She has been a hardworking singer. She has realized several albums such as ‘First Love’ in 1999, Deep River in 2002, Ultra Blue in 2006, Fantome in 2016, Bad Mode in 2022 and This is the One in 2009 among others.

9. Miyuki Sawashiro

Miyuki Sawashiro is a Japanese actress and narrator. She was born on June 2, 1985, in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. She is one of the most famous actresses in Japan.

Sawashiro has taken part in different television films such as ‘Di Gi Charat’ in 1999, ‘Galaxy Angel’ in 2001, ‘Pita Ten’ in 2002, ‘Leave it to Piyoko’ in 2002, ‘Kaleido Star’ in 2002, ‘Please Twins’ in 2003 and ‘Saiyuki Gunlock’ in 2003 among others.

10. Empress Michiko

Empress Michiko was the first commoner to marry into the Japanese Imperial Family. In 1959 she became the Crown Princess of Japan after marrying Crown Prince Akihito. She was blessed with 3 children together with her husband.

Michiko grew up in Tokyo and receive basic education both traditional and western where she learned to speak English. She as well learned to play the piano and arts such as cooking, painting and Kodo.
