10 Things Italy is famous for

Italy is full of beautiful cities, museums, historical buildings, beaches and mountains, natural scenery and much more. There is a lot to find out and discover. If you are considering visiting Italy, you need to know what to see and where to go. Keep reading and you’ll find the 10 things Italy is famous for.

1. Food and pasta

Pasta is what makes Italy different from every other place you’ll visit during your lifetime. We need to stay that food is sacred here in Italy. Each region is full of traditions connected to food and considering that meals are important to Italians, you’ll find out there are a lot of restaurants wherever you’ll decide to go.

Tortellini, lasagna, cannelloni, orecchiette, spaghetti alla chitarra, culurgiones, ravioli are the more know worldwide. You’ll find a large variety of pasta, the Italian tradition wants it made by hand so you’ll taste handmade pasta wherever you’ll sit down for lunch or dinner.

If you have parents that have Italian origins then you will already know what I’m talking about. On Sunday the Italian families like to gather together to taste fresh pasta handmade by the nonna or auntie usually accompanied by fresh salsa or what we call “sugo”. During winter, the pasta is substituted by the famous “polenta” accompanied by ribs and sausage sauce!

Get ready for a diety on your way back home!

2. Wine

Wine is part of the Italian identity. Thanks to the climate and the soil you’ll find regional wine everywhere in Italy.

The Tuscan wine is remarkably the best one I believe. And in the second place, I’ll put the Lazio one. White and red wine are made locally and you’ll find farmhouses, “tenure” that produce organic and local wine. If you are a wine lover then Italy is the right place for you.

Italians love to produce and drink good wine. There is a lot to choose from but restaurants and osterie will suggest to you the best ones to bring back home for your friends to enjoy.

3. Sport

We can easily say that sport is what keeps Italy united. Each region as per food and wine has its own team representing it. So you’ll find people at the major stadiums cheering for their favourite teams during the soccer championship. You can visit San Siro, Allianz Stadium in Turin, San Nicola, or the roman Stadio Olimpico!

All over Italy, you can find stores where to buy football t-shirts to bring them back home with you.

4. Museums and art galleries

If you love art and history then Italy is the right place for you. From north to south you’ll find museums all over. Believe me or not in Italy there are 4.000 museums to choose from.

Wherever you’ll decide to stop for your Italian holiday you’ll find museums that are private or free. Many of them have their collections online so I suggest taking a look at their catalogues online before booking a ticket online to avoid crowds and waiting in line for a visit. It’s always better to book in advance and know what you’re going to visit.

5. Famous people in Italy

Many Italian and non-Italian actors and actresses live in Italy. Here you can find George Clooney walking around Lake Como. Brad Pitt, Colin Firth, and Helen Mirrer have homes in Italy. Without forgetting that many singers also love to visit it and spend time among the Italian wonders, especially during summer.

Who knows maybe you’ll bump into Mick Jagger while walking in Montalcino!Who knows?

6. National Parks

Here you will find some national parks that you can visit based on the places chosen in your tour of Italy. You will find:
Parco Del Gran Paradiso, Gran Sasso, Stevio; Dolomites, Cinque Terre and Monti Sibillini, arco del Gargano and della Maddalena, Sila and Aspromonte.

Italy is a country with a high mountain density, especially in the north of Italy.
If you love high-altitude walks, trekking and nature walk you are in the right place.
You can make excursions on foot, by bike or on horseback.
You will find numerous marked routes to follow.
But the most important thing is that you can walk and admire the lakes set in the greenery.
Some lakes not to be missed in Italy are Lake Como and Lake Maggiore;
Without forgetting Lake of Posta Fibreno, Lake of Brayes, Lake of Scanno and many more.
There are tons to choose from. It all depends on you and where you want to go and what to do!

If you are passionate about cars and motorcycles then Italy is for you.
Here you will find the car families of Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Lamborghini, and many others.
You can spend time and admire these splendours at the racetracks such as Autodromo di Monza, Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari in Imola,
Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, also known as “Santamonica International Circuit” at Misano Adriatico and many more.

10. Roma

Italy by Manuel Reina da Pixabay

I put it last even though I shouldn’t. Rome should be the first destination for all tourists.
Rome is the cradle of Italian history thanks to the ancient Romans and all the archaeological finds they have left us.
You can stroll near the Colosseum, admire the areas of the Imperial Forums and immerse yourself in the ancient history of Rome.
Absolutely not to be missed!
With its places and its views, you will remain in love with the “eternal city” I am sure.
