Meryem Uzerli was born on 12th August 1983, in Kassel, West Germany.

She is a Turkish-German actress and model who rose to fame by playing Hurrem Sultan in the Turkish TV series Muhtesem Yuzyil, from 2011 to 2013.

She received a condemning applaud for it and won numerous awards, including a Golden Butterfly Award.

She also made minor appearances in the TV series Notruf Hafenkante and Ein Fall Fur Zwei in 2010. Uzerli is known for her roles in German films like Journey of No Return and Jetzt Aber Ballett in 2010.

She has appeared in many advertising films and she is the face of numerous brands. She was chosen as the Woman of the Year by GQ Turkey in 2012.

Her well-known movie role includes Ayse in Kovan, a story about bee-keeping. At the end of 2014, she signed a contract with O3, the Turkish production company of MBC Group.

1. Meryem Uzerli was born in a bi-lingual family

Uzerli was born in Kassel, West Germany, to a Turkish father Huseyin, and her mother Ursula was an actress from Germany.

She has two older brothers and an older sister who is a jazz musician. Due to her parent’s nationalities, she has both Turkish and German citizenship.

Although she spent her childhood life in Germany, she is also fluent in Turkish and English.

2. She is one of the most famous actresses in Turkey

Uzerlias’s most known role is Hurrem Sultan in the historical television drama series Muhtesem Yuzyil which brought her to prominence.

The drama series was directed by the Taylan Brothers. Uzerli was chosen for the role in 2010, after an eight-month search to find the best actress for the role.

This was after Meral Okay, the series screenwriter, and Timur Savci, the series producer came to the decision.

The series won her a Golden Butterfly Award for the Best Actress, which rose her to fame.

3. Uzerli left Muhtesem Yuzyil series due to health concerns

Hurrem Sultan is Uzerlis’s most known break-out role in the TV drama series Muhtesem Yuzyil.

She was chosen for the role in 2010 by Meral Okay, after a long search for the best character for the role.

She lived in a hotel in Instanbul during the shooting of the series in which she shared the leading role with Halit Ergenc, Okan Yalabik, and Nebahat Cehre.

She won the  Golden Butterfly Award for the Best Actress in her role and a TV Stars Special Award.

Uzerli left the series in 2013 due to health concerns, seemingly a burnout where Vahide Percin was cast to play an older version of Hurrem from episode 103 onwards.

In 2012, Uzerli was chosen as the woman of the year by the GQ Turkey.GQ is an American internationally monthly men’s magazine based in New York City.

The publication focuses on fashion, style, and culture for men. Even so, articles on food, movies, fitness, sex, music, travel, celebrities, sports, technology, and books are also featured.

This won her the Turkey GQ Awards as the woman of the year.

5. She signed a contract with O3, of MBC Group

At the end of 2014, Uzerli signed a contract with O3, the Turkish production company of MBC Group.

MBC Group operates over 17 free-to-air satellite channels and video-on-demand services.

Star TV released a video of Uzerli and a photo of her in December 2014 introducing her as one of its stars in 2015. In October 2015, she was again introduced among the TV stars for 2016.

In March 2015, It was concluded that Uzerli would share the leading role in the TV series Gacenin Kralicesi with Murat Yildirim. The series was directed by Muhtesem Yuzyil directors, Taylan Brothers.

Some of the series scenes were filmed in Cannes, France and the shooting later continued in Rize, Turkey. Gacenin Kralicesi premiered on Star TV in January 2016.

7. Uzerli has been featured in cinema movies

she appeared in a cinema movie titled Annemin Yaris, 2016 which was released the same year. She also appeared in a guest role on Eskiya Dunyaya Hukumdar Olmaz between 2016 and 2017.
