Irfan Haarys Bachdim is a professional Indonesian footballer who was born on 11 August 1988. He plays as a winger or attacking midfielder for the Persis Solo team which is a Liga 1 football club.

1. Irfan Bachdim was born and raised in the Netherlands

Irfan Bachdim’s father Noval Bachdim is of Indonesian national Arab descent born in Malang Indonesia east Java province. He lived in the resort of Malang until 1980 before moving to Nerthalnds where he resettled and married his Dutch wife.
 
Irfan Bachdim was born in Amsterdam as the couple’s second child. Despite being born in the Netherlands to a Dutch mother and raised there till adulthood he maintained his Indonesian nationality throughout his life.

His football career started at SV Argon in 1997. In 1998 Irfan Bachdim joined the famed Ajax youth academy in Amsterdam. While there he trained along with Mitchell Donald and two other teammates. After three years at the academy, he returned to SV Argon where he became the youth league top scorer. 

4. Irfan Bachdim played for FC Utrecht 

FC(Football Club) Utrecht, a club that had never been out of the top flight of Dutch football, recruited him in 2003. He played for FC Utrecht’s junior team as well as the senior reserve team.
 
On 17 February 2008, Bachdim made his first appearance in the Netherland’s highest level of professional football, the Eredivisie. He played a ninety-minute match for his team FC Utrecht.

Bachdim had a desire to play for Persema Malanga. His dream was realized on August 9, 2010, through recruitment by the coach. The coach noticed his skills as he watched Bachdim play in a  game at Gajayana stadium in Malang.
 
Bachdim was recruited along with Kim Jeffery Kurniawan a footballer of Indonesian German descent who played for FC Heidesheim in Germany. During the selection process, Bachdim was treated as an Indonesian native, not a naturalized player. This was because he had held his Indonesian passport since childhood.
 
At the Persema team, Bachdim played more at the front as a second striker or winger. The Indonesian football management decided to move Persema from the Indonesian super league to the Indonesian premier league in 2011. Bachdim considered leaving the team due to the threat of not being able to take part in the national team.
 
As a result, the upcoming competition was deemed a renegade league by the football federation. In the end, he committed himself to the team by signing a three-year contract despite continual intimidation from the federation to leave the club and valuable contracts offered by various clubs.
 
Some of the rewards he was promised came from the youth and sports minister who guaranteed him the right to perform for the national team. To become a member of the U-23 team, and selected to play at the 2011 Southeast Asian games as well as to qualify for the 2012 Olympics. He lost all by signing the contract to proceed with Persema in the Indonesian premier league. 

6. He played for Chonburi FC

In Indonesia, the league continued to disrupt the smooth running of the competition. Bachdim started to entertain other offers outside Indonesia. After failing to compete for selection at leading Thailand clubs, he finally succeeded in 2013 when he was signed by another Thailand club Chonburi on a two-year contract.
 
In early December after failing to get a regular spot, Bachdim signed up for trails at J-league clubs Vegalta Sendai and Ventforet. He made a vow that if he joined either of the two teams, he would go back to Chonburi to prove himself to the new manager. He was lucky and Ventforet Kofu recruited him. 

7. Irfan Bachdim played for Bali United

Bachdim suffered some injuries in Japan that affected his football experience. Bachdim returned to Indonesia in 2017 to play for Bali United FC, which had developed a strong following after playing on Bali Island.
 
In Bali, Bachdim developed his professional and personal comfort zones. Due to his relatability, he became a favorite among fans. His goals and sideline dribbles impressed the team and fans during his 66 games for the club. He was dubbed prince by the loud chanters.
 
Bachdim helped Bali United win its first national title in the 2019 Liga 1. But his injuries often recurred in Bali forcing him to slide down the pecking order and give way to fitter players throughout the years. By early 2020, Bali United made it clear that his service would not be needed. He was given a heartfelt farewell by his fans. He moved to the less glamorous Liga 1 club PSS Sleman.

Irfan Bachdim played for both PSS Sleman and Persis Solo teams. He played for only three games in PSS Sleman due to the Covid 19 pandemic that led to the restriction of matches.
 
He renewed his contract in 2021, and the same year joined Persis solo after resigning from PSS Sleman and made his debut on 15 November 2021. In the match, he scored his first goal for Persis against Rans Cilegon in 40 minutes at the Pakansari stadium.

His two goals in the competition stimulated him into football stardom in Indonesia. He became a regular choice for the national team until late 2021 under a variety of coaches.
