 A cat can either be a house cat, a farm cat or a feral cat. Domestic cats are valued by humans for companionship and their ability to kill rodents. About 60 cat breeds are recognized by various cat registries. Considering that the term ‘beautiful’ is subjective, hence, judging cats is extremely challenging. Since “beautiful” can range from “attractive” to “dazzling,” the most beautiful cats have to be glamorous and/or breathtaking.

However, they’re also some of the most beautiful animals on Earth and no two breeds look exactly the same.  Therefore this article will  roundup some of the most beautiful cat breeds  that will show how different cats appear.

The 10 most beautiful cat breeds include the following;

1.Persian

The Persian cat is one of the oldest cat breeds in the world.  It is said that the Persian cat has been cherished for hundreds if not thousands of years. It originated in the deserts of Persia and Iran. Today, the Persian cat is the most popular pedigreed cat breed in the U.S.. According to the Cat Fanciers’ Association in 2021, it was ranked as the fourth most popular cat breed in the world. The trademark characteristics of the Persian cat are a round, flat face shaped like a pansy and a profuse, long coat. The Persian cat is known and loved for its very sweet, gentle, calm disposition.

2. The Siamese

The Siamese is one of the oldest breeds of domestic cat and also the most recognizable breed on the planet. According to accounts, these sleek cats with the brilliant blue eyes and outspoken personality originated in  Thailand, where they lived in palaces and temples. They were treasured as companions of royalty and religious leaders for generations, and served as guardians of precious documents and valuables in the Buddhist temples.

The ideal Siamese is a medium-sized, svelte, refined cat with long tapering lines, very lithe but muscular. Males may be proportionately larger. Balance and refinement are the essence of the breed, where all parts come together in a harmonious whole, with neither too much nor too little consideration given to any one feature.

3.Abyssinians

Abyssinian are among the oldest known breeds. They are popular for their distinctive features. The breed’s distinctive appearance include, seeming long, lean, and finely colored compared to other cats, has been analogized to that of human fashion models. Personality-wise, the cats traditionally display active, curious attitudes in which they frequently follow owners around and encourage play. 

In 2016, the Abyssinian breed was ranked among the top five most popular breeds by the Cat Fancier Association and the International Cat Association.

4. Birman

The Birman is  also called the “Sacred Cat of Burma”, is a cat distinguished by a silky coat, deep blue eyes, and contrasting white “gloves” on each paw. Birmans cats have soft, subtle meow and love attention. They are known for lush, soft coats and blue eyes.

The Birman breed was first recognized in France by the Cat Club de France in 1925, then in England by the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy in 1966 and in the United States by the Cat Fanciers’ Association  in 1967. It was also recognized by the Canadian Cat Association and the International Cat Association  in 1979.

5.Maine Coons

The Maine Coon is a large domesticated cat breed and one of the oldest natural breeds in North America. The breed originated in the U.S. state of Maine, where it is the official state cat. In the late 19th century Maine Coons was popular in cat shows but its existence was later on in the early 20th century was threatened when long- haired was  introduced. It is now the third most popular pedigreed cat breed in the world.

6.Turkish Angora

The Turkish Angora  is a breed of domestic cat. Turkish Angoras are one of the ancient, natural breeds of cat. They originated in central modern-day Turkey, the Ankara region.  The Turkish Angora is a small to medium-size cat, weighing  5 to 9 pounds, beautiful and elegant on the surface, the Turkish Angora can surprise an unsuspecting owner with his athleticism and intelligence.

7. American  Curls Cats

The American Curl is a breed of cat distinguished by its unusual ears, which curl back from the face toward the Centre of the back of the skull. The breed originated in Lakewood, California, as the result of a spontaneous mutation. The American Curl is an uncommon breed in which both long haired and short haired American Curl have soft, silky coats that lie flat against their bodies. These breeds require a little grooming and most of the time they enjoy spending time with their owners. 

8. The Norwegian Forest Cat

The Norwegian Forest cat  originated in Northern Europe. This natural breed is adapted to a very cold climate, with a top coat of long, glossy, water-shedding hair and a woolly undercoat for insulation.  These cats are gorgeous but they’re also formidable. Don’t get the wrong idea though, they love nothing more than cuddling up with you on the sofa

9. Siberian

Siberian cats are one of the oldest cats that originated from Russia. They have been developed as a formal breed with standard promulgated the world. Siberians vary from medium to medium-large in size. The formal name of the breed is Siberian Forest Cat but usually it’s simply called the Siberian or Siberian cat. This elegant cat has a long, lush coat perfect for keeping it warm in the tundra of Siberia or simply in your house during a long winter. 

10. Russian Blues

The Russian Blue Cat  is a cat breed with colours that vary from a light shimmering silver to a darker, slate grey. The short, dense coat, which stands out from the body, has been the breed’s hallmark for more than a century. Blue is a naturally occurring breed that may have originated in the port of Arkhangelsk in Russia. They are also sometimes called Archangel Blues.
