1. Tony Parker

Tony Parker, a former professional basketball player of French-American heritage, had a career spanning from 1999 to 2019. His basketball journey commenced with Paris Basket Racing in the French basketball league before he joined the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.

Parker entered the NBA in the 2001 draft when the Spurs selected him as the 28th overall pick. He swiftly secured the role of the team’s starting point guard.

Throughout his tenure with the Spurs, Parker contributed to the team’s success, clinching NBA titles in 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014. During the 2011 NBA lockout, he played for ASVEL Basket in France.

Concluding his playing career with the Charlotte Hornets after one season, Parker departed the NBA playoffs as the fifth-highest passer and ninth-highest scorer overall.

Recognized for his achievements, Parker participated in six NBA All-Star games, earned spots in three All-NBA Second Teams and one All-NBA Third Team, and secured the 2007 NBA Finals MVP award. He is esteemed as one of Europe’s most exceptional players.

Boris Diaw, a former basketball player and current executive from France, holds the position of president for Metropolitans 92 in the LNB Pro A league. After completing 14 seasons in the NBA, Diaw transitioned his playing career to Pro A, primarily performing as a power forward.

Notably, he was awarded the NBA’s Most Improved Player title during his time with the Phoenix Suns in 2006. In 2014, Diaw played a crucial role as the San Antonio Spurs in San Antonio clinched the NBA championship. He also served as the captain of the senior French national team.

Throughout his international career, Diaw secured various accolades including a bronze medal at the FIBA World Cup in 2014, a EuroBasket championship in 2013, a silver medal at EuroBasket 2011, and two bronze medals at EuroBasket in 2005 and 2015.

He was selected for the All-EuroBasket Team in 2005. Since July 2019, Diaw has held the role of president for Metropolitans 92.

4. Nicolas Batum

French professional basketball athlete Nicolas Batum is currently a member of the Philadelphia 76ers in the National Basketball Association.

He also represents France in international basketball and secured a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. Initially, Batum began his basketball journey playing as a centre.

Recognized as one of the NBA’s premier practitioners of chase-down blocks, Batum is highly regarded for his exceptional defensive skills. His signature move, the chase-down block, became a defining aspect of his game and contributed significantly to his success in the NBA.

By the conclusion of March 2013, only Josh Smith and Kevin Durant had recorded more blocks than Batum among players not playing centre or power forward in the 2012–13 campaign.

5. Tariq Abdul-Wahad

Tariq Abdul-Wahad, a former French basketball player turned coach, played collegiate basketball under the name Olivier Saint-Jean at Michigan and San Jose State.

He was selected as the 11th overall pick by the Sacramento Kings in the 1997 NBA Draft. Following his draft selection, Saint-Jean converted to Islam, adopting the name Tariq Abdul-Wahad.

Abdul-Wahad had a career in the NBA from 1997 to 2003, representing the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, and Kings. Notably, he was the first NBA player who grew up in France.

Additionally, he showcased his talent at the 1992 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship, securing a gold medal for the France men’s national under-18 basketball team.

6. Joakim Noah

Joakim Noah had a thirteen-year professional basketball career spanning from 2007 to 2020. Born in New York, Noah pursued collegiate basketball at the University of Florida, contributing to the team’s consecutive NCAA championships in 2006 and 2007.

He also represented the French national team. Between 1988 and 1998, Noah lived in Paris, France, before relocating to New York City at the age of thirteen.

7. Evan Fournier

French professional basketball player Evan Fournier is currently a member of the NBA’s New York Knicks.

Between 2007 and 2009, he honed his basketball skills as a youth player at the French INSEP academy. Fournier joined the New York Knicks via a sign-and-trade deal with the Celtics on August 17, 2021.

In his Knicks debut on October 20, Fournier showcased an impressive performance, scoring 32 points, which equalled his career-best, in a 138-134 victory against the Boston Celtics in a double-overtime game.

Fournier surpassed this achievement on January 6, 2022, by scoring 41 points in a 108-105 win over the Celtics. This remarkable feat was bolstered by his ten three-pointers and eight rebounds.

Additionally, on March 23, Fournier set a new Knicks record for most 3-pointers made in a season, surpassing John Starks’ previous mark from 1995, tallying 217 successful shots from beyond the arc.

8. Victor Wembanyama

Ronny Turiaf, a former professional basketball player, had a career spanning 10 seasons in the NBA from 2005 to 2014. Hailing from France, Turiaf relocated to the United States to pursue collegiate basketball at Gonzaga University, where he notably emerged as the top scorer for the WCC during his senior season.

Following his graduation from Gonzaga, Turiaf entered the 2005 NBA draft, eventually being picked by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Subsequently, he had tenures with various teams including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers, Washington Wizards, New York Knicks, and Golden State Warriors.

He clinched an NBA championship with the Miami Heat in 2012. Turiaf also represented the French National Team in international competitions.

11. Ian Mahinmi

Ian Mahinmi, a retired professional basketball athlete from France, stood at a height of 6’11” and weighed 250 lb, primarily playing as a centre.

The San Antonio Spurs chose him as the 28th overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft. Throughout his career, Mahinmi amassed a total of 3,209 points, averaging 5.2 points per game (ppg), secured 2,705 rebounds with an average of 4.4 rebounds per game (RPG), and recorded 443 blocks, averaging .7 blocks per game (BPG). He also had stints in Washington with the Washington Wizards and Indiana Pacers.

12. Frank Ntilikina

French professional basketball athlete Frank Ntilikina is currently a player for the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets. Born in Belgium and raised in Strasbourg, France, he was selected as the eighth overall pick by the New York Knicks in the 2017 NBA Draft. Ntilikina predominantly plays as a point guard and stands at a height of 6 feet 4 inches.

During the 2014 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship, Ntilikina played a pivotal role in assisting the Under-16 French Junior National Team to victory, averaging 7.4 points, 2.0 assists, 1.6 rebounds, and one steal per game.

Notably, in the championship game of the 2016 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship against the Under-18 Lithuanian squad, he contributed 31 points, including 7-for-10 from three-point range, aiding France’s Under-18 national team to win the tournament.

Throughout the event, he showcased strong shooting percentages, notably hitting 50 per cent of his field goal attempts and 58.6 per cent of his long-range shots, putting him close to securing Most Valuable Player honours.

Moreover, Ntilikina displayed impressive statistics, averaging 15.2 points, 4.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game. Additionally, in September 2015, he notably contributed 13 points, four rebounds, a game-high eight assists, and more during the FIBA European Under-18 All-Star Game.

His contributions were instrumental in France’s bronze medal win at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, where Ntilikina played a significant role for the bronze-winning French team.

13. Théo Maledon

Théo Maledon, a French-born professional basketball player, currently competes for the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets in Charlotte, North Carolina. Before joining the ASVEL youth program at 16 years old, Maledon participated in youth basketball under the French sports institute INSEP.

He earned recognition as the LNB Pro A Best Young Player in the subsequent year at the senior level and made history as the youngest LNB All-Star. Maledon’s contributions included being named the French Cup Final MVP and aiding ASVEL in securing victories in Pro A and the French Cup.

14. Johan Petro

Johan Petro, a retired French basketball athlete with roots in Guadeloupe, concluded his career with the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the NBA Development League.

The SuperSonics drafted him as the 25th overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft before moving to the Denver Nuggets, New Jersey Nets and Atlanta Hawks in Atlanta.

Drafted 11th overall in the 2000 NBA Draft by the Celtics, Moïso had stints with various NBA teams including the Boston Celtics, Charlotte Hornets, New Orleans Hornets, Toronto Raptors, New Jersey Nets, and Cleveland Cavaliers in Ohio.

Throughout his NBA career, Moïso competed in a total of 145 games, making three starts, and maintained an average of 2.7 points and 2.7 rebounds.

His most notable season occurred in 2002-03 while playing for the New Orleans Hornets, where he achieved personal bests in scoring with 4.0 points per game and rebounding with 3.5 rebounds per game.

His NBA journey concluded with a brief stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, featuring in only four games before concluding his career.

16. Jaylen Hoard

Jaylen Hoard, a French-American basketball professional, is currently active in the Israeli Premier League and EuroCup, representing Hapoel Tel Aviv. During his college years, he played basketball for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

Hoard did not get selected in the 2019 NBA draft. He inked a two-way contract with the Portland Trail Blazers on July 1, 2019, post which he signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder on December 4, 2020.

However, his stint with the Thunder was brief as he was waived three days later. Following this, he joined Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel on August 14, 2022.

17. Guerschon Yabusele

Guerschon Yabusele, a French basketball athlete, currently competes for Spanish club Real Madrid in both the Spanish Liga ACB and the EuroLeague. He represents France on the international stage.

Identified as one of the top international prospects for the 2016 NBA draft, Yabusele was chosen as the 16th overall pick by the Boston Celtics. He played for the Celtics between 2017 and 2019, sharing time with Boston’s G League team, the Maine Red Claws.

During his time in Boston, despite limited play minutes, Yabusele earned the affection of fans and was affectionately dubbed “The Dancing Bear.” Additionally, he has had stints in the Chinese Basketball Association and the lower-tier French LNB Pro B league. At a height of 2.01 meters (6 feet 7 inches), he primarily operates as a power forward.

18. Howard Carter

Howard O’Neal Carter, an American-French former basketball player, competed in college basketball for Louisiana State University (LSU) in Louisiana before being selected as the 15th overall pick by the Denver Nuggets in the 1983 NBA draft.

His NBA tenure was brief, concluding with the Dallas Mavericks during the 1984–85 season. Following this, he pursued a career spanning almost ten years in France, eventually acquiring French citizenship and representing the France national team. Carter later concluded his playing career in Greece.

19. Petr Cornelie

Petr William Cornelie, a French professional basketball athlete, currently competes for AS Monaco in the French LNB Pro A and the EuroLeague. Standing at 210 cm (6’11”), he operates as both a power forward and a centre.

Cornelie was chosen by the Denver Nuggets as the 53rd pick in the 2016 NBA draft. He inked a two-way agreement with the Denver Nuggets in Denver on September 17, 2021, which involved dividing his time between the Nuggets and their NBA G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Gold. However, he was released by the Nuggets on January 9, 2022.

20. Nando de Colo

French basketball athlete Nando de Colo is currently part of ASVEL’s roster, contributing to both the EuroLeague and the French LNB Pro A, showcasing his skills across the point guard and shooting guard positions.

De Colo, a distinguished figure with six selections to the All-EuroLeague team, notably secured EuroLeague championship victories with Russian CSKA Moscow in both 2016 and 2019, clinching the MVP title at the Final Four.

His achievements further extended as he surpassed Nikos Galis in 2022, attaining the coveted status of the all-time leading scorer in continental European basketball competitions.

On July 10, 2012, De Colo made public his decision not to renew his contract with Valencia, aiming to transition to the NBA. Shortly thereafter, on July 13, 2012, he inked a two-year agreement with the San Antonio Spurs.

In his initial years in the league, De Colo was assigned multiple times to the Austin Toros in the NBA D-League during his rookie and sophomore seasons. His tenure with the Spurs saw him reach the pinnacle of the 2013 NBA Finals, although the team fell short against the Miami Heat in a seven-game series.

21. Ousmane Dieng

22. Antoine Rigaudeau

French basketball athlete Sekou Doumbouya, who most recently competed for the Delaware Blue Coats in the NBA G League, is a versatile player capable of handling both small forward and power forward positions.

Born in Conakry, Guinea, Doumbouya was raised in Paris, France. He initiated his professional journey at the age of 13 with the local club CJF Les Aubrais. The following year, while studying at INSEP, he also played for the amateur team Centre Fédéral.

In 2016, Doumbouya commenced his professional career by joining Poitiers Basket 86 in France’s second-tier league, where he spent two seasons.

His progression led to a move to Limoges CSP in 2018, where he ascended to the first division. Subsequently, in the 2019 NBA draft, the Pistons selected Doumbouya as the fifteenth overall pick. 

Notably, he was the youngest player in action during his rookie season in the NBA.

Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot, a French professional basketball athlete, has been playing for ASVEL since 2023. He was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers as the 24th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

He notably showcased his talent for the junior French national basketball teams in both the 2014 and 2015 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championships.

During the 2015 championship, he contributed an average of 11.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, aiding France in reaching the semifinals. Luwawu-Cabarrot was part of the French basketball team that secured second place at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

He scored 11 points in the final game against the US men’s basketball team, ultimately securing a silver medal despite the loss.

28. Rodrigue Beaubois

He initially entered the NBA draft in 2007 and 2008 but decided to remove his name from consideration.

In the 2009 NBA draft, he was chosen as the 25th overall pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder, who later traded him, along with a future 2nd-round pick, to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Byron Mullens from the U.S, the 24th overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft.

29. Frédéric Weis

Frédéric Weis is a retired French professional basketball player from Thionville, France. He was chosen by the New York Knicks as the 15th overall pick in the first round of the 1999 NBA Draft.

However, Weis didn’t sign a contract with the Knicks and never played an NBA game. Throughout his professional career, Weis played for Unicaja Málaga and Irbentia Bilbao in the Spanish ACB League, PAOK Thessaloniki in the Greek League, and Limoges in the French League.

He was released by Iurbentia Bilbao on January 28 due to missing three consecutive games because of illness. Later, on February 13, he signed with Vive Menorca.

With the senior France national basketball team, Weis won the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. He competed in the 1999 EuroBasket, 2001 EuroBasket, 2005 EuroBasket, and 2007 EuroBasket representing the French national team.

Weis led his national team to secure the bronze medal in the 2005 EuroBasket and also participated in the 2006 FIBA World Championship. He announced his retirement in March 2011.

30. Mickaël Gelabale

Mickaël Gelabale is a French pro basketball athlete who most recently competed for Élan Chalon in the Pro B league. He is also a part of the France national basketball team in international competitions.

At a height of 2.01 meters (6 feet 7 inches), Gelabale plays as either a small forward or power forward in certain small-ball setups. During his NBA tenure, he split his time playing for both the Seattle SuperSonics and the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2008 and 2013 respectively.
