Wemby propels Metropolitans 92 to the French semifinals as he refuses to Wait Till Draft Day

The 2023 NBA draft is less than a month away and as the June 22, 2023 date set for the draft beckons, eligible prospects who have declared for the NBA are resting and waiting for the day to get here.

The same however cannot be said about Victor Wembanyama.

Wembanyama is projected to be the first overall pick in the upcoming draft as the hype around him continues to grow each day.

The buzz surrounding the French prodigy has been compared to that legendary LeBron received when he was getting to the NBA if not more.

For one reason, Victor’s height and wingspan earn him bragging rights and standing at 7’4” with an 8-foot wingspan, the hype is well deserved.

The NBA draft lottery was held on May 16, 2023, and the San Antonio Spurs were the lucky team to get the first pick come June 22, 2023, and as Victor is set to be the first overall pick, we can have an idea of where Victor might land.

As much as Victor is set to transition to the NBA come June, this does not stop him from playing for his current team Boulogne- Levallois Metropolitans 92 of the LNB Pro A.

Under Vincent Collet who is the head coach of Metropolitans 92, Wembayama has had a spectacular season averaging 21.6 points per game and leading his team to finish second just behind Monaco.

With the LNB Pro A season complete and now the playoffs on, Wembanyama refuses to sit and wait and is a pivotal figure whose plays have helped his team edge out Cholet in a three-game thriller to proceed to the Semi-finals.

Victor scored 19 points, 4 assists, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks to lead Metropolitans into cruising past Cholet with an 81-69 win in a must-win game 3 of the first-round series.

With an impeccable performance during the regular season, his performance in this game was a continuation of what he has been doing all through.

Metropolitans 92 will now face ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne in the Semi-finals which is his former team which he played for back in 2021-2022.

Victor will be looking to finish the season on a high note and coming out as winners would be the ideal ending to cap off his career in France.

Wembanyama joining the NBA will be a new chapter and as rumour has it, he will be coming to take over once he gets there.

His comments after the San Antonio Spurs won the first pick in the NBA lottery just show how prepared Wembanyama is and his coming to the NBA only means business.

In an interview with ESPN just after the Spurs got the first overall pick, Wembanyama is asked what will the Spurs get when they pick him and he said,” Aah, you know… team player, I am gonna make everything to win as many games as I can and I am tryna win a ring ASAP so be ready.”

There you have it, Victor is coming and is not coming to play. We have seen what he has done and what he is capable of.

The NBA will be such a challenge for him but he is more than ready for the task. As of now let us wait and see how he fairs on with Metropolitans as he looks to have a fairy-tale ending in France with the NBA calling.
