Senior Twitter Engineer Quits After DeSantis’s Eventful Presidential Bid Launch

On Thursday, a day after Ron DeSantis’s event on Twitter Spaces, The company’s director of engineering Foad Dabiri announced his exit from the company. The now-infamous Ron DeSantis presidential campaign will go down as a ‘DeSaster’ as Twitter faithful labeled it on the day. However, is Dabiri’s unforeseen exit a consequence of the shambolic event?

On Wednesday, DeSantis’ Twitter-facilitated presidential campaign announcement attracted over 600,000 Twitter users at the beginning of the event. However, it soon became apparent that Musk’s platform was not equipped to handle this kind of traffic leading to numerous crashes.

The stream ended abruptly 20 minutes in before restarting again, this time with a considerably smaller audience that peaked at about 300,000 users.

The following day, Foad Dabiri in a tweet, announced that his tenure at Twitter was coming to an end. “After almost four incredible years at Twitter, I decided to leave the nest yesterday,” the tweet read.

The timing of his exit has spurred questions more so regarding if there was a link between the two events. However, Foad was quick to shut down these questions with a follow-up tweet.

“And since some have asked, my decision and the timing of it are independent of any recent events,” he said.

While the timing of his exit is suspicious, to say the least, Dabiri did everything in his power to eliminate any notion that his exit was in bad faith. In a Twitter thread under the hashtag, #LoveWhereYouWorked, Dabiri appreciated his colleagues and his time at the company.

Speaking on Elon Musk he said, “Working with @elonmusk has been highly educational, and it was enlightening to see how his principles and vision are shaping the future of this company.”

However, he did also admit that working under Musk was challenging owing to the outside noise that Musk brought with his name and status as well as ideals. He did however put a positive spin on this situation adding that he had learned enormously from the experience.

Dabiri is by no means the only well-known individual to have recently left Twitter. A large portion of the personnel at the website has either been let go, fired, or quit after Elon Musk took control.

In November 2022, Elon Musk provided an ultimatum for his employees. Fully commit to being “extremely hardcore” or leave. Droves of employees left and like Dabiri, they posted about their departure using the hashtag #LoveWhereYouWorked.
