Known to be a shopper’s paradise Dubai city boasts of having the tallest skyline, the Burj Khalif tower. Dubai is capital of the Emirate of Dubai and the most populous city in the region due to its fast-growing economy. It is located in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula on the coast of the Persian Gulf.

Dubai is home to five public and 58 private colleges and universities. The major centres that house these institutions are Dubai Knowledge Village and Dubai International Academic City. The education system follows that of the UAE where the majority of the public universities teach in Arabic and Non-Arab speaking students must take Arabic language. However, in recent times the universities in the region are catering to international students by teaching in English as a second language.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) is the government ministry associated with higher education in Dubai. The Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) licenses educational institutions and accredits degree programs. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) is a regulatory authority which carries out quality assurance of education in the region.

1. Zayed University

Founded in 1998 by the Emirati federal government as an only female university. The original campus was located on the northern end of the Abu Dhabi peninsula, on Delma Street.  In 2006 it moved to its current location in the Academic City. It is relatively small university named after Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the country’s first president. In partnership with the UAE Armed Forces it opened the Sweihan campus in 2008 and admitted roughly 200 male students for the first time.

Zayed University made its first appearance in the 2018 QS World Ranking and earned the 701 out of 750 universities spot. It was ranked 22 out of 122 in the QS World University Arab Rankings in 2019. In 2016, the institution received the Apple Distinguished School Award for the use of Apple enhanced assistive technology to aid in the academic, social and vocational support of its students.

It is the first federal university in the UAE to be internationally accredited. The university has eight colleges; College of Arts and Creative Enterprises, College of Business, College of Communication and Media Sciences, College of Education, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Natural and Health Sciences, College of Technological Innovation, and University College. It offers 17 majors and 10 minors at the undergraduate level and 10 masters’ degree.

It is also known as Hult Business School or Hult and was founded in 1959 in Ashridge, England. Hulk is a private institution of higher learning named after Bertil Hult, a Swedish billionaire who is the heir of the American institution, the Arthur D. Little School of Management, which he acquired in 2002, founded in 1964 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The school is patron to the world’s largest student completion for social good, Hult Prize.

The school is known to offer comprehensive courses and electives that are focused on business management and marketing. In 2014, Hult attained and merged with Ashridge Business School thus creating one of the largest business schools in the world.

It is the only America institution to hold the Triple Crown accreditation, meaning it is part of the three major business accreditation associations in the world: the Association of MBAs (AMBA) from the United States, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AASB) from the United Kingdom, and the European Foundation for Management Development Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) of the European Union. Only 1 per cent of all business schools have this status.

It has branch campuses in various regions including Dubai which students are encouraged to attend during their programs. Its Dubai campus was opened in 2008 and offers highly ranked Global One-Year MBA, executive MBA, and other masters programs that are internationally accredited.

3. MODUL University In Dubai

The school was founded in Vienna’s 19th District in 1975 and is the first Austrian university in the Middle East. It was known as MODUL University Vienna, MU Vienna, and offers undergraduate programs in business studies and hospitality management. The name MODUL comes from the honeycomb-like structure of the school.

All undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the Dubai campus are duly licensed by the Knowledge & Human Development Authority (KHDA) of the Emirate of Dubai and Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria (AQ Austria). All the courses are taught in English. Short-term vocational courses, spanning six months to one-year duration, are also offered for hospitality professionals in the UAE.

The Dubai campus was founded by the Dubai Investments and DACH Advisory and is known as MODUL University Dubai, MU Dubai, MDLU Dubai or MUDC.  It started its operations in the region in November 2015. The official campus was opened in September 2016 in the high-rise residential area of JLT. It covers topics of tourism, hospitality, sustainability, public governance, new media technologies, and entrepreneurship.

It is a private Australian global business school. It is named after Sahu Shreyans Prasas Jain, an Indian businessman, parliamentarian and an important member of the Jain community. The global university has enjoyed international recognition for its Global MBA program which has been ranked in the world’s top 20 by Forbes’ Best International 1 year Full-time MBA programs for five years in a row.

The Dubai branch was founded in 2004 in Dubai International Academic City in a 60,000 square feet (0.56 ha) stand-alone three floors building. It offers both undergraduate and postgraduate business-related courses in a hi-tech learning environment.

5. Murdoch University Dubai

Murdoch University is a public university in Perth, Western Australia, founded on 25th July 1973. Considered to be the second university to be opened in Australia and it is named after Sir Walter Murdoch, the Founding Professor of English and former Chancellor of the University. It enjoys international recognition having been feature as one of the top 100 young universities in the world.

Its Dubai branch was opened in 2008 and unlike its predecessor, it is a private higher learning institution located in Dubai’s International Academic City. It offers degrees in Commerce, Information Technology, Media and postgraduate programs for Business and Human Resource (HR) Management.
