10 Best Romantic Restaurants in Copenhagen for Dates

I must admit that compiling this list was not the easiest to do, considering the number of wonderful options that are there to choose from, but that is where I step in. I understand the importance of getting out of the monotony of washing dishes and watching documentaries on Netflix in between the little arguments here and there. So, I’ve searched high and low to bring you the top 10 romantic restaurants in Copenhagen.

These are the places where the food is as impressive as the atmosphere, and whether you’re celebrating your first anniversary or simply reconnecting with your partner, I can promise that these places will not disappoint. What did I take into consideration as I compiled this list? The dim lighting, soft tunes, and attentive staff won’t make you wait a lifetime for service. Read on and let us know which place you visited to create the most memorable date.

1. Alchemist

If you’re visiting Copenhagen with your partner and want a special, romantic dinner, Alchemist is a great choice. The restaurant offers a unique dining experience that’s perfect for a memorable date night. The Alchemist is located in a beautiful old building, creating a cosy and inviting atmosphere. The highlight of the evening is the 50-course tasting menu, which features creative dishes with amazing flavours and textures.

Because there are so many courses, dining at the Alchemist takes a while. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday, with seating at 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s worth it for a truly special occasion. Since Alchemist is very popular, it’s important to make reservations well in advance to ensure you get a table. If you plan, you and your partner can enjoy an unforgettable evening at one of Copenhagen’s most unique and romantic restaurants.

Gaarden & Gaden is a charming and whimsical spot that offers a cosy and romantic dining experience. With twinkling lights and candles on the tables, the atmosphere is perfect for a special night out with your partner. The menu features fresh and creative dishes, and you can choose between a curated 5-course meal of the chef’s favourites or order a la carte.

We recommend making a reservation and arriving early to enjoy some oysters while you wait for your meal. The restaurant also has an impressive selection of craft beers, an extensive coffee menu, and delightful drinks. Located at Nørrebrogade 88, 2200 København, Denmark, Gaarden & Gaden is a must-visit for couples looking for a unique and intimate dining experience in Copenhagen.

3. Kong Hans Kælder

Kong Hans Kælder is a cosy restaurant in a basement near Kongens Nytorv. It has a romantic feel with candlelit tables and a great wine list. Even though it’s been around since the 70s, the restaurant feels like it’s from a different time when you walk down the stairs. The food is really good, and the service is some of the best in Copenhagen. The restaurant is known for its creative menu and fine dining experience. If you’re looking for something cheap then this isn’t it but every penny will be worth it as the food and service are top-tier.

If you’re wondering what to order when you get there, we would highly recommend the signature menu, which includes several different courses prepared by the chef. The tables near the kitchen are the best, as you get to watch how they prepare your food, which would be a great option if you’re interested in meal preparation. Just as with any good place, you must book the trip before you visit and if you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to food, we know their homemade Italian sausage is one of the best options, as well as their Italian wine from their wine list.

4. Llama

One of the best things about romantic restaurants in Copenhagen is the variety, from Italian meals to Latin American food, you’ve got it all. Llama happens to be one of these restaurants that serves tasty dishes from Argentina. The recipes in this particular restaurant have been passed down in families for a long time, so the food is quite authentic and has a rich taste.  What makes this restaurant romantic other than the hearty food? The dining room has pretty tiles on the walls and you can have a candlelit dinner here.

Even though the menu is mostly Latin American, there are also some Scandinavian classics you can order. Everything on the menu is super flavorful, and there’s a great selection of wines and fun cocktails to choose from. If you’re new to Latin American food, don’t worry! The friendly staff can help you pick the best dishes to try. Make sure to order some of the South American spirits; they’re a special treat. And if there are any specials, give them a shot, since they’re made with fresh, local ingredients.  You can find Llama at Lille Kongensgade 14, 1074 København, Denmark.

5. Salon 39

Salon 39 brings the French experience closer to you so you don’t have to worry if you haven’t been able to visit the love city. This spot offers a French dinner and a set-course menu created by the chef and you can pick wines and cocktails to match your food. The restaurant is quite small and cosy, so you’ll be sitting close to other couples. But if you want more space and like watching people go by, you can choose to sit at one of the tables outside on the street.

Before choosing to sit outside, make sure you check the weather forecast before booking a table. The best thing about this restaurant, other than the food, is the staff. They are helpful enough to care if you have allergies, all you have to do is let them know so that they can recommend the meal that would be better to have.  Unlike some other restaurants with set menus, Salon 39 can work with you to make sure your dietary needs are taken care of. You can find Salon 39 at Vodroffsvej 39, 1900 Frederiksberg, Denmark.

6. Khun Juk Oriental

If you’re looking for an intimate and cultural experience, then this is the place to go, especially if you’re a Thai food lover. The seating arrangement is different from your typical restaurant but I find this option a bit more intimate, as you get to sit comfortably on soft benches with cosy pillows and choose from many tasty and authentic Thai dishes. It’s a great spot if you don’t eat meat or gluten because they have lots of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.

If you’d like to share food with your date, there are plenty of appetisers and small plates to pick from. The mini spring rolls and oysters are yummy. The soups are also fantastic and can be a perfect way to start your Thai food adventure. If you’re a meat lover, we recommend you try the oven-roasted lamb and grilled stag, which are delicious. And if you enjoy good wine, you’re in luck because they have a great selection of top-quality wines. You can begin your evening with some champagne or ask your server to help you choose the perfect wine for each course. You can find Khun Juk Oriental at Store Kongensgade 9, 1264 København, Denmark.

7. Il Buco

Il Buco is the best Italian restaurant in all of Copenhagen. If you’re looking for a healthy meal that is organically made from fresh ingredients from local farms, then Il Buco is the right place for a romantic date. If you’re staying at the Copenhagen Marriott or another nearby hotel, then you can easily access this restaurant by renting a bike, and you can go there for breakfast, lunch, or date night.

We suggest asking about the daily specials and trying some of the more unique menu items. They’re always really good. You can’t go wrong with any of the handmade pasta dishes either, like the gnocchi or spaghetti. Make sure to pick a nice wine or some bubbly to go with your food. And if you have a sweet tooth, save some room for the amazing pastries. They pair perfectly with dessert wine and coffee. You can find Il Buco at Njalsgade 19C, 2300 København, Denmark.

8. Restaurant Levi

If you want a casual dinner date in Copenhagen, this is the best option for you. It’s run by two friends, Jesper Boelskifte and Peter Trauboth, who wanted to bring together the best of Italian and Japanese cooking. The mix of options on their menu may be a little confusing but what we would recommend is that you try the Tuna with Akami and bagna cauda, which combines Italian and Japanese ingredients. Or, if you like meat, the Black Angus with Yakiniku sauce is a tasty choice.

The restaurant itself has a very lax atmosphere thanks to the design by Johannes Torpe, a famous Danish designer. He mixed old-school Italian and Japanese styles to create a space that’s both comfortable and stylish. You’ll feel right at home, but it’s still nice enough for a special date night. Plus, it’s in a great location at Ny Østergade 24, so it’s easy to get to from other parts of the city.

Silo is a top pick for a romantic dinner in Copenhagen. Located on the 17th floor of a converted grain silo, it offers stunning city views and a unique, memorable atmosphere. The menu has modern Nordic cuisine, with talented chefs creating beautiful dishes using fresh, local ingredients. This would be a top pick for a date night and is well-liked because of its cosy booths, soft lighting, and friendly staff.

Silo is the kind of place where you take your partner after a long time of no breaks, it’s the ideal place to relax, enjoy each other’s company and savour a truly special dining experience. Due to its popularity, making a reservation in advance is highly recommended. Trust us, the combination of amazing food, great service, and a one-of-a-kind location makes Silo worth planning for. 10. MaMeMi Restaurant and Wine Bar

So, maybe you’re not the kind of person who likes a fancy meal, maybe you just want a romantic dinner in Copenhagen with a simple meal and what could be simpler than pizza? This cosy spot has a warm and inviting atmosphere that’s perfect for a date night with wine and pizza. If you’d like to bond over a chilled bottle of wine then you’re in for a good ride here since they have an extensive wine list that has been carefully curated from all over the world.

If you’re not sure about the wine you’d like, they have a very well-informed staff that can help you pick the perfect bottle to pair with your meal. Why is their pizza so popular? maybe it’s the fact that the dough is made from scratch daily and it’s made from high-quality ingredients. You can choose from a variety of toppings, from classic Margherita to more creative options like prosciutto and fig. MaMeMi Restaurant and Wine Bar is worth checking out. Just be sure to make a reservation, as this popular spot can fill up quickly.
