I am unwavering in my belief that Sports can be a powerful tool for promoting peace. Who doesn’t enjoy watching their favorite sport?

Sports richness is unparalleled. Sports have brought people together and will continue to bring people together across boundaries, cultures, and religions. When I look at the current century and what sports have brought about, I can only describe it as perplexing. Sports can be used in a variety of ways to promote peace in regions, countries, and around the world.

What are your thoughts on combating racism?

Antagonism by an individual or a group of people against some people on the basis of their race should be avoided at all costs. Individual discrimination based on race is strongly condemned. Recently,” Black players” have been chastised and mocked in various media outlets as well as on the field. In a good scenario, after England lost on penalties to Italy in 2022, one can see the fallout suffered by black players after failing to convert the penalties. Football, for example, is intended to be a place of enjoyment rather than discrimination and harsh language. It begins with the realization that, on an individual level, we are all the same. Similarly, public figures from all sports should take action to address the issue of impunity.

“ Sport has the power to change the World. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does”

Sport is an effective tool for bringing together different ethnic groups. Intrinsic values like fairness, discipline and respect can be said to be used to promote solidarity and social cohesion. The task of developing a good sports system to support all of these groups cannot be accomplished solely through sporting initiatives. Individuals, public figures, and social media platforms should express their opinions in order to improve the system of bringing different races together. Sports provide an engaging and cost-effective medium for post-conflict relief, peacebuilding, and conflict prevention.

Sports encourage stability. One thing I am certain of is that there are no sports activities designed to help participants reintegrate, which may be one of the main reasons why we cannot experience peace. Peace-building aims to address the root causes of violent conflict. Despite knowing the value of sport, the role of sport in post-conflict peace-building remains limited, particularly in grassroots models. Sporting initiatives allow for encounters in an environment where aggression can be controlled, regulated, and transformed, with the goal of promoting reconciliation and respect among opponents.

Sports are not only a recreational activity, but they also provide an opportunity for people to collaborate. Anarchy comes to mind when I think of a diverse working environment. Why should we allow this to worsen when we can use sports to combat all of the world’s ills? It’s no secret that Sports are a multibillion-dollar industry. However, you may be unaware of the enormously positive impact sports have on local economies, primarily through tourism dollars. Consider what occurred in New York. The New York City Marathon boosted the city’s economy by $340 million in 2010. According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Chicago Cubs generate $600 million in revenue for the state of Illinois each year.

President Mandela, a strong leader who used Rugby to bring people together, was one of the key leaders who emphasized the importance of people adapting sports to bring peace. We use sports to shed light on social issues, leveraging their influence and reach to bring attention to issues that affect society. Sports promote a healthy lifestyle by encouraging both physical and mental development. It is a gathering place where people can come to improve their social skills, strengthen cultural values, and learn how to follow the rules. Physical activities improve both physical and mental health and well-being, as well as teach important values and social skills.

However, Sports not only empower individuals; they also unite and inspire people collectively, which helps to build communities.

Sports help us find a sense of belonging. We are not all blessed with academic success. Some people are gifted in sports such as football, racing, rugby, swimming, and other activities. Where do we place these individuals who can excel in sports and raise the flag of a country, society, or even their own name as a community? In other words, it is a source of community pride if no child is lost as a result of not achieving something. A simple illustration transports us to Senegal’s Sedhiou. Sadio Mane, one of the best footballers in the world, is born in a small village in Senegal. He has had an impact not only on football but also on his community in Senegal.

Creating football academies for the “less fortunate in books.” The neighborhood is at ease. This is simply the community’s discovery, and everyone is focused on growth. Let us take something away from this. Sports will aid the community’s rapid growth. There is peace when everyone grows!

International Organizations can be proactive in bringing together synergies and partnerships among various stakeholders working for peace. I don’t see the point of advertising sports to promote peace if the sports organizations aren’t consistent in their implementation. With all of these organizations, such as the Olympic family, International Federations, and national Olympic committees, the goal will be to implement programs on the ground and ensure their long-term viability. In this way, Sports can be used to promote peace and social transformation in conflict-affected areas around the world. What INEOS Company has contributed to the world through sports is still fresh in our minds. To promote both peace and Sports, the company sponsored Kenyan marathon world record holder Eliud Kipchoge. He broke the record by running 42 kilometers in 1:59:40, making him the best in the world. Sports will bring pride to the country, just as Eliud brought pride to Kenya.

Do you expect wrangles when a hero triumphs? Certainly not. Instead, Kenyans will be united by the win, and, foreigners will tour the country to see what heroes’ do to win such incredible records. It is touring that will promote peace and other benefits.
Sports is more than just a race to the finish line. Do you ever consider the peace that would reign in the community if sports were used to bring everyone together? Sports and sports activities can significantly improve the development of social relations within a society. This fosters a sense of identity in competitions where they can treat each other with trust and friendship, clearly expressed in building relationships and peace. A good example is the recent war between Russia and Ukraine.

Football, with a large number of spectators, was used to demonstrate that the public was opposed to the acts between the two countries. Public figures and athletes wore peace badges and jerseys. The media that was broadcasting the matches was not left out, but they had a “Stop War” line on the screen. We can all see how athletes played an important role in promoting peace as a means of resolving conflicts that were presented to them as an alternative to sporting activity as a bridge for building interethnic relations. Based on this solution, sports activities discovered peace in conflict-affected communities by establishing a positive link between the civilian population and the military, which can stop conflicts and build interethnic relations through sports activities.

But did you know that Sports is also a low-cost way to help vulnerable communities all over the world? Let me finish by discussing the youths in the refugee camps. We can all agree that at least 65% of refugees fled their original habitats due to war and violence. Creating programs that engage and collaborate with children and youth will create an environment for engagement and collaboration. Playing soccer bonds them together, as well as Karate, Basketball, and Rugby, and they will be united by a common vision, and share experiences, and the ethnicities may be more accepting of each other’s differences.

Alphonso Davies’ case is a good example. Alphonso’s parents fled the Liberian civil war for a refugee camp in Ghana. Davies’ family immigrated to Canada when he was five years old. There, the prodigious athlete joined Free Footie, an after-school football league designed to assist inner-city elementary-school students who couldn’t afford registration fees and equipment, or who lacked transportation to games. Davies became the youngest player ever to play for Canada in June 2017, just a week after gaining citizenship. He was sixteen years old. The world-famous player now plays for Bayern Munich. He is also the first Canadian football player to be appointed as an ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). He announced earlier this year that he would donate his World Cup winnings to charity. According to the case, it is through consistent and realistic sports programs that some of the youths in refugee camps can rise.

This will help to resolve some of the emerging conflicts, such as racism.

To summarize, Sports have an unparalleled ability to transform, empower, and unify people. Participation in Sports teaches ambition, perseverance, and teamwork.
