OMG, director David Mandel’s new political miniseries on HBO Max, White House Plumbers, chronicling the ill-fated 1970’s Watergate break in, is a thoroughly engaging comedy (remember a comedy is a play on or about life) of errors.
I wonder, given the poetic license of portraying the events, how could any of those involved not be labeled The White House Stooges? Could any group of former intelligence operatives be more inept?
The series is rich with a fabulous cast of actors at their finest, but the absolute standouts are Justin Theroux as G. Gordon Liddy and Woody Harrelson as E. Howard Hunt.
Harrelson, often overlooked for his acting chops, creates the most compelling character headed for a spectacular train wreck. Theroux eerily captures all the frightening nuances of the real life of G. Gordon Liddy’s narcissism.
Ignore the Rotten Tomatoes rating of 65% and tune in and enjoy this fascinating wild ride through one of the most captivating journeys through history.
