The Tallest buildings in China
China is currently the country that has the largest number of Skyscrapers in the world. It has more than 1400 buildings with heights above 150 meters and 50 of them are supertall buildings which are higher than 300 meters, hence are skyscrapers and about 11 of the skyscraper are over 450 meters tall.
It has been noted that China has half of the top 10 total tallest buildings in the world. They include the number two spots of the world’s tallest building.
However, this article has a list of the tallest buildings that are found in China;
1. Shanghai Tower
Shanghai Tower is a 128-story building 632 meters tall. It is a mega tall skyscraper in Lujiazui, Pudong, and Shanghai. It is the tallest building in China and the world’s third-tallest building. It is also the largest LEED Platinum-certified building in the world since 2015.
It was designed by the international design firm Gensler and was owned by the Shanghai Municipal Government.
2. Ping An Finance Center
Ping An Finance Center is a supertall skyscraper in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China with a 115-story of 599m tall. The building was commissioned by Ping An Insurance and designed by the American architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. The building was completed in 2017, thus becoming the tallest building in Shenzhen and the 2nd tallest in China, and the 4th tallest in the world. It broke the record of having the highest observation deck in a building with 562m.
3. Guangzhou Chow Tai Fook Finance Centre

The Guangzhou Chow Tai Fook Finance Centre is also called East Tower. It is 530m tall. It is a mixed-use skyscraper in Guangzhou, Guangdong. It was completed in October 2016. It is the tallest completed building in Guangzhou, the third tallest in china, and the eighth tallest in the world. It houses a shopping mall, offices, apartments, and a hotel. It also has the world’s fastest elevators.
It is owned by Chow Tai Fook Enterprises. The building was designed by Kohn Pedersen fox after winning the design competition in 2009, in the association of the Guangzhou Design Institute and Leigh & Orange, who became the architects of the record and the British Arup Group was chosen to engineer the building, while the contractor was China State Construction Engineering.
4. Tianjin CTF Finance Center
Tianjin CTF is a super-tall skyscraper, in Tianjin, China. Its construction was started in 2013 and completed in 2019. It is the second tallest building in Tianjin after Goldin Finance 117. It is also the eighth tallest building in the world.
It was designed by Skidmore, Owinga & Merrill LLP in collaboration with Ronald Lu & Partners.
5. China Zun
China Zun is also known as CITIC Tower. It is a supertall skyscraper in the Central Business District of Beijing. It’s a 109-story building with 528m. It is the tallest building in the city surpassing the China World Trade Center Tower III by 190 meters.
The building is likely to remain the tallest building in Beijing since 2018 the authorities capped new projects in the central business district. It is a mixed-use building with 60 floors of office space, 20 floors of luxury apartments, and 20 floors of a hotel with 300 rooms. It was designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and Farrells.
6. Shanghai World Financial Center
Shanghai World Financial Center is located in the Pudong district of Shanghai. It is a supertall skyscraper, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by the Mori Building Company, with Leslie Robertson Associates as the structural engineer and China State Construction Engineering Corp and Shanghai Construction (Group) General Co. as the main contractor.
It is a mixed-use skyscraper, consisting of offices, hotels, conference rooms, observation decks, and a ground-floor shopping mall. In 2007 it was topped out at 492meters, thus making it the 2nd tallest building in the world and the tallest building in Mainland China.
7. International Commerce Centre

International Commerce Centre is a 108-story building with 484m. It is a commercial skyscraper that was completed in 2010 in West Kowloon, Hong Kong. It is a part of the Union Square project on top of Kowloon station. In 2010, it was the 4th tallest building in the world and as of June 2019, it became the world’s 12th tallest building by height and the world’s ninth tallest building by several floors. It was also the 6th tallest building in China.
The building was designed by the American architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associate in association with Wong & Ouyang.
8. Wuhan Greenland Center
Wuhan Greenland Center is a skyscraper in Wuhan, China. It was redesigned so its height does not exceed 500metres above sea level due to airspace regulations. When it is completed to be redesigned it will be the th15th tallest building in the world.
The original plan for the building was to have it rise to 636metres, thus surpassing the shanghai tower and Tokyo Skytree, hence making it the second tallest man-made structure in the world.
When the building reached its 96th floor, the construction was halted due to airspace restrictions hence leading to the redesign to a 474 meters instead of 636 meters building. The building is likely to be the 15th tallest building in the world after the redesign of the Wuhan Greenland Center is completed.
9. Chongqing Corporate Avenue 1
This is a 99-story building 458m tall. It is a mixed-use skyscraper, it is still under construction because the construction was dramatically slowed down in 2016.
It is believed that once the construction is complete, It will be the tallest building in Chongqing and will be among the tallest buildings in China. The construction is expected to be complete in 2022. The has now reached a height of 190m tall.
10. Changsha IFS Tower T1

This is a skyscraper in Changsha, Hunan, China. It is about 452 m tall. The construction started in 2013 and was completed in 2017. It is the 16th building in the world and the tallest in Hunan. IFS is the International Finance Square.
It was designed by East China Architecture Design &Research Institute which is a structural engineer the architecture firms are Wong Tung &Partners and the main contractors are China Construction Second Engineering Bureau Ltd.
