Which one is it?

Best spot to have a nap in Paris

Let’s get straight to the point. For me, the Jardin du Carrousel is definitely the best spot to have a nap in Paris! It is located on the east side of Jardin des Tuileries (the Tuileries garden). Let me tell about a little more about this majestic place. First of all, you should know that the Jardin des Tuileries is actually the oldest garden of Paris. It is located in the Right bank of Paris, between the Louvre Museum and the Concorde square (Place de la Concorde). Its construction was ordered by Catherine de Médicis, a French queen. She wanted to decorate the surroundings of the Tuileries palace (that no longer exists), because she used to spend her spare time there. The Jardin des Tuileries got its name from the tile factories that stood there in the past. The way the garden looks now was designed by André Le Nôtre, a landscape architect. He’s also the man who designed the garden of the palace of a Versailles! Its aspect is a “jardin à la française“, it is based on symmetry, order and long perspectives!

How do you get there?

You can get there on foot because it’s definitely one of the highlights of Paris. If you’re walking through Paris and visiting the right bank, the Jardin des Tuileries is most definitely a must!

The fastest way to get there is taking the metro. You can take the metro line 1, 8 or 12 if you choose to get down at the Concorde metro station. I highly recommend to take the line 1 and to get down either at Palais Royal – Musée du Louvre or at Tuileries metro station.

The Tuileries Garden is one of the best places in Paris! This garden is very enjoyable because it’s the most peaceful. People from all ages will enjoy this garden. There are activities for the youngest, such as merry-go-round for instance. And if you happen to come to Paris with children in Summer, you have to come to Fête des Tuileries. It has a strong family and traditional atmosphere with lots of fair ground attractions and many fun rides for children! You can have fun in a true Parisian fun fair with your lover, your friends, your family. You also get to try the best fun fair traditional sweets and dishes like cotton candy, “Pomme d’amour” (candy apple, in English), crepes, waffles, churros, and many more! If you’re in Paris during July or August, going to Fête des Tuileries is definitely one of the things to do!

The Jardin des Tuileries is gigantic and has many different parts. Either you simply enjoy walking or having a drink in the shade, you will be satisfied in the Tuileries Garden. You can also seat in a typical Parisian chair around one of the big fountains that can be found in the main avenue of the garden, to enjoy the sun or people watching.

But getting back to our main interest, to have a nap in Paris it has to be in a very specific place in the Jardin des Tuileries. If you go to the Tuileries Garden from the Louvre Museum, you have to cross the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel. You will then find yourself in Jardin du Carrousel which is the best spot to have a nap in Paris! Jardin du Carrousel stands on the site where the Palais des Tuileries used to be until it got burnt down. I consider it to be the most private part of the Jardin des Tuileries.

In Jardin du Carrousel, you will see lawn on its sides. And that is most definitely the best spot to have a nap in Paris! You can have a nap between the shrub fences. It’s very intimate and silent! You will feel away from the city life and will also understand what the Parisian lifestyle is about. To take time to do nothing at all and simply enjoy the moment is very important. Once in a while, I love to go to Jardin du Carrousel, rest between the fences and think about life until I fall asleep.

You now know the best spot to have a nap in Paris! I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do. If you go there, let me know how was your nap experience at the Jardin du Carrousel! Or if you know another good place to take a nap in Paris, feel free to share! See you soon in Paris for some naps! Joking! :)
