Where to Find Barcelona’s Best Secret Bars (with a map)

Barcelona used to have a lot more secret, speakeasy-type bars than they do today. Few of them saw the success they needed to keep the doors open, and have since closed up permanently.

The few that remain are kept alive by locals, but tourists are learning of their presence and slowly but surely the secrets are getting out. I’ve even given you a map to get you right to the door…

Paradiso in Barcelona

This is probably Barcelona’s best secret bar, having withstood the test of time and low seasons.

To get to Paradiso you’ll first have to find the Pastrami Bar at the same location in el Born. This is a daytime cafe where the whole menu revolves around tasty pastrami sandwiches and deli-type foods.

To get to Paradiso, one must find the secret fridge in the corner of the cafe and enter it into the secret cavern that holds the bar area. You’ll only be allowed access through the fridge from 7pm every evening, and the bar closes promptly at 2:30am.

The ambience in Paradiso is tangible. There are treasure chests the breathe smoke, and a cocktail menu that will have you back tomorrow night for more.

Speakeasy in Barcelona

Don’t let the name fool you, although secret, the Speakeasy in Barcelona isn’t actually a full on speakeasy bar, but a restaurant as well.

It’s hidden inside of another bar called the Dry Martini. As far as cocktails in the city center go, it doesn’t get much better than this.

In the back of Dry Martini is the entrance into Speakeasy, which is a prohibition themed restaurant with a full bar. This is a more quiet spot for a romantic dinner and drinks over good conversation. Inside Dry Martini is where the music will be a bit louder and you’re free to drink without eating.

Later on in the evening at Speakeasy, once all dining guests have been served, you’re welcome to treat the space as solely a bar area.

Caribbean Club in Barcelona

The Caribbean Club is in el Raval and, to the locals, is the best hole-in-the-wall bar in the area. Few people know that it is here, but once inside you’ll find it filled with regulars and an incredible communal vibe.

Entering the Caribbean Club is very much like being transported into another dimension. It’s not a speakeasy per say, but the vibe very often feels like one. Some might call it more of a tiki bar vibe, though I don’t particularly like that description.

The bartenders will work closely with you to create a drink best suited to your taste. The rum Old Fashioned is always my go-to. Their Cachacaras and Daiquiris are popular too! Everyone is incredibly friendly, and you’ll only be kicked out at 2am…

TRAIN STATION: Catalunya

Bar Marsella in Barcelona

The Bar Marsella is also in el Raval and is a historic spot in terms of Barcelona’s nightlife.

This is the oldest bar in the city; it’s been here since before there was even a proper community center or infrastructure. It’s got a ton of character, and was where Picasso and Hemingway would toss back doubles when they visited the city.

People come from far and wide to have even one drink in the very iconic Marsella. This also happens to be one of the only places in Barcelona where one can drink authentic Absinthe brought in straight from Paris.

They only very recently updated their systems and have been able to accept cards for payments, but it is always a good idea to have some cash on hand at Marsella.

Barcelona Pipa Club in Barcelona

Pipa is closer to Gracia and is a private smokers club. Don’t be deterred, there is no membership requirement to enter. Simply show up at the apartment building at the address listed below and make your way up to the third floor.

Here you’ll find the very exclusive, very illusive Pipa Club.

On a good night you might even be treated to a live jazz performance in the space. It’s €6 to enter, but this includes your first drink and the rest of the proceeds go toward supporting the live musicians.

Beirut 37 in Barcelona

Beirut 37 isn’t so much of a secret as it is simply unknown. Word is getting out about this vintage themed spot, and it’s fast becoming one of the trendiest nights out in el Raval.

It’s a 1920s themed cocktail lounge. The entire interior is comprised of old fashioned, seemingly thrifted furniture from bygone eras.

It’s an intimate space, great for a conversation over a drink. Unfortunately they do not serve food at this time.
