Where to Enjoy Taco Tuesday in Barcelona

While in Barcelona, it’s good taste to be careful around confusing the Spanish culture with the Latin.

Catalan culture, specifically, has its own distinct foods, and just because people in Mexico might speak Spanish, Mexican food isn’t automatically part of the local cuisine. That being said, anyone interested in eating Mexican food while in Barcelona can absolutely do so if they know the right spots!

Taco Tuesday tends to bring people to Barcelona’s Mexican restaurants in their droves! Here are the best places in which to enjoy this tradition.

Taco Alto in Barcelona

When in doubt, Taco Alto can be trusted to bring the taco goodness seven days a week!

There are now a total of four of these street food restaurants stationed around the city center. Tacos hot off the grill are within walking distance from you virtually at all times.

They’re served hot and fast along with any sides & salsas of your choosing. Taco Alto have also taken the time to introduce an isolated vegan menu, with a few options for plant eaters.

I love their spot close to Barceloneta beach, as well as the one right across from the Arc de Triomf.

If you find yourself unsure of what to order, consider taking advantage of their mixed combo plate. You’ll get a plate of four tacos all with different proteins and toppings, and a beer to wash it down with!

Pikio Taco in Barcelona

I’m a strong believer in giving credit where it’s due, and Pikio Taco knows how to create a vibe!

On any given night you’ll find them blasting Mexican classics, or hits from the 80s. It makes it very difficult to find fault in anything that happens from the minuet you walk in; even if you’re food doesn’t arrive as fast as you might like, everything is forgivable.

Pikio Taco does an array of different tacos, salsas and sides. You can build up a combo plate of sorts, sampling as many different flavors as you can handle.

On Tuesdays you’ll find Pikio Taco full from early in the evening with people from around Barcelona looking to get their taco fill. The tacos go for €3.50 a piece, so your bill will add up, but it’s all worth the experience.

Costa Pacífico in Barcelona

A friend of mine had a Mexican boyfriend for a while, and he would always take her to this spot in el Born. I guess that gives it the seal of approval we need, coaxing us out of hiding for tacos on a Tuesday evening.

Thankfully the food lives up to its reputation, and my recommendation for Costa Pacifico is to always come hungry.

Tacos are the main event, yes, but one simply must start with either a ceviche or pozole first.

The restaurant has close ties to a seafood distributor in Barcelona, so their seafood dishes tend to steal the show. The fish tacos are their most popular menu item every day of the week, and I am told their Mexican-style mussel pot does very well too.

If you’re feeling experimental, take a bite of their tuna taco. Tuna Taco Tuesday, sounds about right.

La Cantina Mexicana in Barcelona

I would recommend La Cantina Mexicana to anyone looking for great tacos in Barcelona, particularly nearer to Gracia.

The rest of their menu, like the burritos and quesadillas, are decent meals in terms of flavor and portion, but the tacos really do steal the show.

La Cantina Mexicana goes all out with their nightly decor and Latin music, it’s very easy to feel transported into another time and place within minutes of sitting down. This is wonderful for a Taco Tuesday experience; an immersive and authentic ode to the cuisine.

In spite of the great food and ambiance, La Cantina Mexicana are still ironing out some operational cracks. For one, there is currently no AC in the restaurant making it incredibly stuffy during the summer.

These kinks are easy to fix, and La Cantina Mexicana remains a really great spot for Mexican food in the Catalan capital.

El Tianguis in Barcelona

El Tianguis is our last stop for tacos on a Tuesday in Barcelona. And this is perhaps the most important of the lot because they offer specials here all day!

I love a place that takes Taco Tuesday as seriously as it deserves to be.

El Tianguis is a mix between a street food eatery and a formal diner. It’s well balanced with the right amount of casual and the right amount of class.

Their taco baskets usually come in groups of four, but if I’m not having a side I’ll usually add a fifth taco just for good measure. They use authentic yellow corn here, so be sure to drench all of your tacos in freshly squeezed lime juice!

A lot of the salsas at el Tianguis are made using coriander. Those with the gene can request their meals be made without, but make this clear when you start to order!
