Where are the safest places to stay in Barcelona?

Barcelona is a great place to visit for a weekend, or much longer if you’re lucky! I remember the first time I visited I was amazed with the beauty and liveliness of the city.

Like most major cities in Europe, Barcelona has it’s safe areas, and it’s sketchier ones. It can be tempting to stay in areas with the least expensive Airbnbs, hotels and hostels. I’ve been there! But, a lot of times cheaper can equal less safe.

As far as safety in genera, Barcelona is known for it’s pickpocketing problem. But, like in any major city, I’ve found that if you stay aware you’ll be fine! I personally have never had any problems, but I am also very aware. I don’t wear a backpack. I always have my hand on my bag so that I can feel if anyone tries to touch it. I also don’t keep anything in my pockets.

It is possible to find great accommodations in safe areas in this popular Spanish city! I’ve scoured the internet, asked for advice from friends and done a ton of research to bring you my list of the safest places to stay in Barcelona. Enjoy!

Hotel Catalonia Catedral

The Hotel Catalonia Catedral is located just around the corner from the Catedral de Barcelona. It’s also located within the Gothic Quarter, or Barri Gòtic in Spanish, of the city, which is one of my favorite areas in Barcelona!

There is the History Museum of Barcelona (Museu d’Història de Barcelona), several food vendors and even a weekend art market at the Plaça del Pi! Overall, this is a great area to stay in if you like history, architecture and art.

The Hotel Catalona Catedral is known for it’s safety, convenient location and it’s beautiful design. There is also an airport bus that stops at Plaça de Catalunya, making it easy to get to!

The staff is friendly and helpful, so even if its your first time coming to Barcelona you’ll have all of the resources you’ll need to explore the city. You may have just found your new favorite hotel in Barcelona in the Hotel Catalonia Catedral!

Yurbban Trafalgar Hotel

The Yurbban Trafalfar Hotel is located in the El Born neighborhood in Barcelona. This area is known for it’s maze of narrow streets that are perfect for getting lost in (with a GPS or map on hand, of course)!

Don’t miss the Picasso museum and a gothic cathedral called the La Santa Maria del Mar. Keep your cameras ready to take some photos of the amazing architecture! If you plan o using the metro system while you’re in Barcelona, this hotel is also conveniently located next to the station Urquinaona.

The Yurbban Trafalfar Hotel is clean, there is a rooftop bar with a pool and the restaurant inside serves up some really delicious plates. Guests love the safety of the area too!

The Majestic Hotel & Spa is nestled in the Eixample area of Barcelona, which is known in general for its safety. Eixample literally means “extension” in English; it’s a newer section of Barcelona with spacious streets and luxury shopping.

There are some fantastic buildings designed by Gaudi to see as well, which I definitely recommend checking out! Gaudi is one of my favorite Spanish architects, and Barcelona is filled with his masterpieces.

This hotel is known for its safe neighborhood and close vicinity to some great restaurants and shopping. It’s clean, the staff is friendly and helpful, and their amazing spa! This is the hotel for you if you’re looking to relax.

Primero Primera

If you’re willing to travel a little bit to get to the hustle and bustle of central Barcelona, the Primero Primera is the hotel for you. Since it is situated a fair distance from the center of town and the beaches, it is definitely a safer option solely due to its location.

This could be a great option for people traveling with children! The hotel is located in a residential area called Tres Torres-Sarria, and if you aren’t up for doing some walking, it is only a 10 minute metro ride into the city center.

The atmosphere at the Primero Primera is safe, quiet and calm. It is the perfect hotel to come home to after a long day of sightseeing and wandering. There is a small pool and a delicious breakfast, too!

Rodamón Hostel

I wanted to include a few hostel options for all of my travelers on a budget! The Rodamón Hostel is located near La Pedrera and Casa Batlló, 2 buildings designed by our friend Gaudi.

The atmosphere here is convivial, and you’ll immediately feel at ease after you check in. There is WiFi, a communal kitchen area and a large terrace! There is also the option to book a private room. If you do chose the shared room option, something I really love about this place are the individual curtains around each bed.

The hostel is also known for its safe location, which is of course why I’m including it on my list. It is also known for being a great choice for solo female travelers, so all of my ladies out there…rejoice!

Barcelona Central Garden Hostel

A lot of hostels get a bad rap for being party central, and are therefore not really considered to be a calm or relaxing place to come back to after you’ve done some exploring. Well, the Barcelona Central Garden is not one of these hostels!

Not everyone comes to Barcelona for the nightlife, and if you’re someone that wants to ensure a good nights sleep, you should definitely consider this hostel. But, don’t think you’ll be bored at the Barcelona Central Garden. The hostel puts on tapas and Flemenco dancing nights, too!

Situated just a few blocks from the Plaça de Catalunya, this hostel is also in a central location. Safe and centrally located?! Sign me up.

Address: Carrer de Roger de Llúria, 41, 08009 Principal, Barcelona, Spain

Casa Consell Guest House

The Case Consell Guest House isn’t a hotel or a hostel, but rather a complex of apartments! This is a great option if you love Airbnbs, but are a bit nervous about renting one in Barcelona.

The apartment complex is located in the Eixample area, which as you already know is a very safe area of the city. You can walk to the Plaça de Catalunya and the famous Las Ramblas streets in about 15 minutes, making it a great locale for ample sightseeing.

You’ll have the option of booking an apartment with a terrace or a balcony, too! Talk about a great place to come home to after wandering the streets and the beaches of Barcelona.

Address: Carrer del Consell de Cent, 324, Principal, 2, 08007 Barcelona, Spain

Conclusion
