Top 5 Rooftop Bars in Barcelona

The panoramic views from the rooftops of Barcelona often feel too good to be true. The tree lined streets offering up hoards of Modernisme architecture creates a melody of a dream world we are only too happy to sip cocktails above.

Most hotels in Barcelona offer guests and the public access to hospitality venues on the rooftops of their buildings, usually in the form of a bar or a restaurant. There are a bunch of rooftop cinemas in Barcelona too, but more about that some other time.

We’re here to drink and I’ve got five fabulous rooftop bars worth visiting in Barcelona’s city center. Shall we?

1. Terrace at Ohla Barcelona in Barcelona

Ohla is the 5 star dream situated slap bang in Barcelona’s center . While staying here during your Spanish travels might not be a financially viable option, certain attractions at this hotel remain open to the public.

The rooftop bar is one of them. The Ohla’s top floor boasts stunning views of the rest of the city center. It is constructed in a deck style with an exposed box swimming pool in the middle.

People from all over Barcelona come to enjoy a beer in the heat of the day, or a glass of wine as the sun descends on the city. The rooftop doesn’t offer a food menu but there are two restaurants on site of the hotel as well that you are welcome to enjoy.

Prices at Ohla are understandably quite steep. The view combined with the pool and quality drinks menu definitely make it worthwhile.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday – 12pm to 1am
ADDRESS: Via Laietana, 49, 08003 Barcelona, Spain
Metro STATION: Urquinaona

2. Skybar at Grand Hotel Central in Barcelona

Another 5 star hotel to take your breath away; the Grand Hotel Central is a popular luxury accommodation spot thanks to its perfect proximity to the city center and the panoramic views the building offers over Barcelona’s El Born district.

The Skybar rooftop offers booths, tables and an infinity swimming pool that appears to kiss the rooftops of the surrounding districts.

This venue tries to keep things exclusive and requires a €20 entrance fee for all non hotel guests wanting to enjoy the rooftop. The cost of admission includes your first cocktail.

In addition to the entrance fee, patrons who are not staying at the hotel are only permitted entry onto the rooftop after 9pm each evening. This is to manage crowding and ensure that guests are given first preference to the space. The bar is only open until midnight each evening so get there at 9 on the dot to make the most of the time.

Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday – 9pm to 12am

3. Terraza Ayre at Ayre Rosellón Hotel in Barcelona

In Barcelona there is a rooftop bar that is directly in front of Gaudi’s Sagrada Família; so close that it appears one could reach out and touch it. Allow me to introduce the Terraza Ayre.

This is a 4 star hotel and is unbelievable value for money when you consider the location and the views. The building sits right opposite the whimsical church, and the rooftop is its main attraction.

The rooftop terrace is open daily between 6pm and 10pm. It’s a short window, but building regulation requires they close at this time. The bar has affordable drinks; a glass of wine or beer won’t cost more than €4. They also have light tapas meals and bar snacks available.

I recommend everyone who is visiting Barcelona for the first time make an effort to get to the Terraza Ayre for at least one sunset during their trip. A drink here after a free guided walking tour through the Old Town, for example, is a beautiful day out in Spain.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday – 6pm to 10pm
ADDRES: Carrer del Rosselló, 390, 08025 Barcelona, Spain

4. Casa Bonay Rooftop Bar in Barcelona

Casa Bonay is an urban chic 4 star hotel; one that I have been meaning to take a closer look at ever since I first set foot on their rooftop.

As a reflection of the hotel, they’ve created a bar space on their roof with an urban jungle theme. It attracts and undeniably youthful and creative crowd, and since this isn’t the tallest building in the area the focus is more on the bar itself rather than the views it can offer.

The rooftop is constantly holding events such as barbecues, themed music evenings and drink specials. It thrives in the summer and since they open early it’s a good spot to start one’s evening at.

The rooftop shares a street with the Arco de Triunfo de Barcelona. From here it’s a short walk into the Ciutadella Park and the sea behind it.

5. The Pulitzer Terrace at Hotel Pulitzer in Barcelona

The Plaça Catalunya is one of Barcelona’s busiest squares, and the rooftop bars surrounding it are always packed with nightlife and entertainment.

This is another garden that has opted for the urban garden concept at the top of a very trendy hotel. In addition to drinks, the rooftop offers a limited menu of Catalan and Spanish snacks.

During the week the terrace organizes dance music with live DJs. There is no charge to access the rooftop and guests are always dancing the night away, particularly after 10pm.

Since the rooftop must close at midnight, make the Pulitzer Terrace the first stop during your night out in Barcelona. The surrounding streets hold more nightlife that will continue much later into the evening.

One of my favorite bars in Barcelona, the Nevermind, is on the same street at the Pulitzer, just a one minute walk west. They are open until 3am.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday – 6pm to 12am
ADDRESS: Carrer de Bergara, 8, 08002 Barcelona, Spain
