The Best Cafes in Barcelona for Fruitarians

If you’ve landed on this page in search of fruit spots in Barcelona, but aren’t necessarily a fruitarian yourself, read on. All of the following spots will give you the fruit kick you are craving regardless of your dietary requirements.

If you yourself are, in fact, a fruitarian, then welcome! Fruitarians are people who consume only fruit. Fruit based diets have been proven to be one of the most detoxifying forms of consumption available to the human body; the results showing astounding healing and disease prevention.

Traveling fruitarians generally find it stressful to eat out, knowing full well that not every cafe is going to have a fruit based option on offer. This list will help while in Barcelona!

Fruit Express II in Barcelona

The Fruit Express II is a little juicery right outside of the Barcelona Aquarium on Port Vell. This cluster of buildings also holds a number of museums, including the Museum of Barcelona and the Museum of Catalonia. Don’t be surprised to find many guided walking tours going through these streets.

Fruitarians generally don’t mind if their meals are solid or liquid, knowing full well that juiced fruits are as nutritious as solid ones, & that one can actually consume more when they are in juice form.

Traveling fruitarians also know that very often juiceries are their only option of getting the foods that they need.

The Fruit Express II does a wide variety of fruits and vegetables that will be juiced into a concoction of your choosing. Those looking for something slightly thicker can opt for a smoothie instead.

Organic Market Gracia in Barcelona

Fruitarians who are open to eating out in public will find everything they need in the many, many fresh food markets in Barcelona.

The Organic Market in Gracia is my preferred market for fruits; the quality is always top grade and the options extensive. I find other markets in the area to be inconsistent with their fruit options, while Gracia’s one always has everything. This is like thanks to the organic status of the produce.

The fruits here are anything but cheap. Bare in mind you are paying for the quality of the foods, and this is simply what organic produce in Europe costs.

Take your fruits to one of the nearby parks, or the Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia where you can find a spot and nosh under the Barcelona sky. The Sagrada Familia is also near to this fruit market if you’d like to eat while you stroll.

LULU in Barcelona

Fruitarians are like sniffer dogs for good açai bowls, especially in foreign lands.

LULU is a cafe near to the first juicery we looked at in this line up. It’s right by Barceloneta beaches and all of the attractions that the Barcelona coast line hold. People flock here seven days a week between their beach-going activities.

LULU’s does all the regular dishes you’d expect to find in a cafe, but they have a large variety of smoothie bowls, açai bowls and fruit bowls on offer as well.

Their fruit bowls usually come with granola, if you are strict with this then request they replace it with extra berries. The staff are happy to accommodate.

I love their açai bowls; undoubtably some of the best in Barcelona. These too are usually served with their homemade granola so make a note to request it be left off if you are strictly sticking to fruit.

Smudy Juice Bar in Barcelona

On days when I am frantically moving between all of the exciting free guided walking tours taking place around the city center, I myself become a bit of a fruitarian. There is only time for grab-&-go meals, and pressed juices become my staple diet.

Smudy is another juice bar close to Poble Sec. This is vibrant neighborhood that is slowly developing into one of Barcelona’s trendiest spots. The best part is that everything is still affordable down here, from food to alcohol, since it remains one of the least gentrified parts of the city.

Smudy does different juice and smoothie options of your choosing. Beware that some menu items are blended with milk; read the ingredients of each option clearly.

Teresa’s Juicery in Barcelona

Teresa’s is generally my last resort for when in desperate need for fruits in Barcelona. I hope it will be yours too.

Aside from having a fantastic selection of pressed fruits in juice form, the store simply makes use of far too much single use plastic; something we really need to cut down on as a collective people.

A lot of other juiceries in Barcelona have “drink in” options whereby they will happily serve your fruits in a glass that you can down in store, without needing to take plastic outside.

I do understand desperate times calling for desperate measures, however, especially for fruitarians who are so limited with food options as it is. Teresa’s is in el Raval; it is easily accessible and suitable for vegans & gluten free eaters.

Try make an effort to recycle the many plastic containers you’ll use from them if you can. There are recycling facilities around the city.
