The Best 10 Cafes of Barcelona

The Barcelona buzz is one that extends from architecture to museums, nightlife to gastronomy. An ever evolving scene in the city center is that of cafes, with new concepts pupping up every few weeks.

In Barcelona there is but a fine line between coffee shops and cafes, & even so that line is usually blurred. They are one in the same, and they make for welcoming escapes from the bustle of the streets both morning and night.

Here are my top 10!

1. Nomad Coffee Lab & Shop in Barcelona

Nomad Coffee is a haven for coffee drinkers who have yet to find their feet in the Barcelona coffee scene.

They have three locations around the city, but the coffee lab and shop near the Urquinaona metro stop is the only one with an outdoor courtyard. The food menu is simple yet tasty, with options for both meat and plant eaters.

2. Satan’s Coffee Corner in Barcelona

The irony of a cafe with this name being situated in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter does not escape me.

Satan’s is a popular spot for coffee lovers, but I come here for waffles and chia pudding when my soul needs it most!

If you get here early enough you can also indulge in their Japanese breakfast, available before midday.

3. Spice Cafe in Barcelona

The Spice Cafe is also in Barcelona’s city center, and is definitely the most charming cafe of the lot.

The concept here is very simple, hot drinks and tasty treats are what you can expect. Spice Cafe prepares an array of confectionary goodness fresh each day, catering mostly to those with a sweet tooth.

Gluten free individuals will be able to eat a number of items at Spice, too.

4. Nabucco Tiramisu in Barcelona

Nabucco Tiramisu is situated closer to the Gracia region of Barcelona.

As the name suggests, the cafe is centered around the traditional Italian dessert, tiramisu. You’ll have a variety of options through which to taste this desert from the south, but you’ll also be able to eat a savory meal alongside it.

The menu is made up of some house salads and soups, a few sandwiches and some delicious focaccias.

5. SlowMov in Barcelona

Also near Gracia, SlowMov is a spot that I wish would open up a branch closer to where I stay by Barceloneta Beach.

Their cafe menu is wonderful; open faced toast, homemade pizza and even a few health bowls. They also make a traditional Quiche Loraine, which isn’t something that you’ll find often in Barcelona.

I never leave without enjoying a freshly baked cinnamon bun (or I take it to go, for later).

As far as freelancer workspaces go in Barcelona, this is one of the best spots for anyone who needs to get some work done.

6. Black Remedy in Barcelona

On the contrary, I thank my lucky stars on a regular basis that Black Remedy is so central in Barcelona.

Situated in the city’s Old Town, Black Remedy was a simple concept that took off in unimaginable ways. The idea? A good coffee, a delicious sandwich, and a slice of something that melts in your mouth.

Visit them for a great brunch or lunch deal while out and about in the city center. Surprisingly this spot doesn’t feel as touristy as it probably could — a local gem!

7. Cactus Cafe in Barcelona

Poble Sec is the up and coming district in Barcelona, so all cafes that are opening up here have to be bang on trend in order to make it through the gentrification.

Cactus Cafe is one that has succeeded, offering a menu that caters to vegans, vegetarians and gluten free diners at large. I recommend a visit during brunch time, however you can eat their entire menu through until 7pm each evening; an early dinner treat!

8. Hidden Café Bcn in Barcelona

As you move deeper into Barcelona, you’ll eventually pass through a district called Les Cortes.

Les Cortes doesn’t have many cafe options, but Hidden Cafe is a local hangout and well kept secret.

This spot has a similar concept to Black Remedy in the city center; coffee, cakes and panini sandwiches.

It’s a hearty meal combo for anytime of day, and as a bonus there is outdoor seating available when the weather is good!

9. Onna in Barcelona

Onna Cafe is one of Barcelona’s most Instagrammable spots in terms of capturing that authentic cafe content. They are known for their quality coffees, as well as the coffee art that comes as a bonus on every cup.

Their cafe menu consists of generously sized paninis, stuffed bagels and fresh cakes. If you love a matcha latte you’ve probably struggled to find a decent one while in Barcelona — Onna’s got you!

10. ARTiSA in Barcelona

The spelling of the name of this cafe in Barcelona says everything you need to know about the avant-garde nature of the space.

At ARTiSA everything is mismatched but nothing is out of place. The food and drink menus have been curated to perfection, and there is even an in-store ice cream bar for after your meal.
