10 Cheap Places to Eat in Barcelona

Barcelona is by no means an unaffordable city to visit. One can easily splurge on a vacation here, but those on a strict budget can have an equally as enjoyable time.

You’ll find eating cheap in the city relatively easy. These are ten that I would recommend, but you’ll find a lot of your own as you explore.

1. Bo de B in Barcelona

From the outside, Bo de B looks like a little hippie nook where you’d probably be able to learn the art of tie dye.

It’s actually a tiny diner, one where you can eat sandwiches and creative health bowls for next to nothing. You won’t pay more than €4 for a meal here.

Unfortunately the shop has little to no ventilation inside, and is unsuitable for dining in in the summer, though some people still will. I would get food to-go and walk to the nearest square & eat there.

2. A Tu Bola in Barcelona

Back in el Raval, this little spot is the epitome of bang for your buck. The food is sensational; carefully prepared by a loving chef in the style of “gourmet street food”.

You’ll want to sample more than just one dish at A Tu Bola; dinging with a friend would be preferable. They do a really nice set menu deal as well that will get you a main, a drink and a dessert of your choosing.

3. Tucco Real Food in Barcelona

My biggest fear is that too many people find out about Tucco Real Food and that I will have to start waiting in line every time I want to eat here. In any case, I’ll tell you about it.

Tucco is a little Italian joint where the meal portions are in no way suitable ratio for the prices. To put it into perspective one can enjoy two empanadas (starter), a pasta (main), chocolate brownie (dessert) and a beer all for just €14.

4. Cafè Menssana in Barcelona

Cheap burgers? Cafe Menssana has you covered.

Here you can enjoy a starter, a burger and a beer all for under €10. It’s also not the kind of place you eat at once; nearly everyone who visits Cafe Menssana will return for a second or third round at some point during their trip.

5. Mosquito in Barcelona

Finding cheap tapas in Barcelona is easy. Finding cheap Asian tapas in Barcelona is another story.

Mosquito is a bit of a rare breed. There is nowhere else to eat this kind of quality Asian cuisine at these low prices. Noodles, dumplings, gyozas, wonton soup; all sold at well under what they are worth per plate.

It’s a unique dining experience in the Catalonian capital.

6. La Plata in Barcelona

Speaking of cheap tapas. La Plata sits on the very edge of the Gothic Quarter. It’s a charming, family run spot with a menu made up of just five dishes.

It is recommended that everyone who sits down to eat order all five and share them as a table; this way you get to try everything. You’ll eat here for just a few euros per person.

I love how local this spot feels; the anthesis of a Barcelona tourist trap.

7. Maoz in Barcelona

Maoz is a cheap eats favorite of mine. It’s a falafel bar, one where you choose between either a plate or a sandwich and then have free reign over the topping buffet provided.

Your meal will never cost more than around €5, and you’ll literally eat until you can’t anymore. The buffet is open to you until your falafel plate or sandwich is finished.

A great late night dining option, too!

8. Macchina in Barcelona

Not quite a buffet, but a similar concept to Maoz. Macchina have three locations scattered around Barcelona.

When you walk in, you build your own pasta dish from the base up, choosing everything from your noodles, to sauce, to meats, to proteins. It’s wonderfully cheap and thankfully also delicious.

There are always a lot of people inside the space, which can feel overwhelming. Just know that the service is incredibly quick and no one is simply waiting around aimlessly.

Any spot in Europe that offers a vegan burger with fries for under €10 is cheap cheap cheap!

In terms of flavor, quality and price, this is the best deal I’ve found. They also do really nice cheap paella.

One last cheap tapas bar before I send you off into the world on your own. L’Ovella Negra Ramblas has cheap everything: beer, wine, food and fun.

They have board games available for you to enjoy while you drink and eat, and there is always good music playing. Lose hours on the pool tables or challenge some strangers to table football between plates.
