Home to some of the most famous monuments, parks and cafés in the city,  Saint-Germain-des-Prés has been the boho neighborhood inspiring artists and writers for centuries. So why not let the magic of this Parisian neighborhood inspire you, too?

Alright, so you’re planning a dreamy trip to this incredible part of Paris, and wondering where to stay. Well, you’ve already got your sights set on one of the most popular and central districts in the city. With so many choices out there these days, it can be difficult to find the perfect place to stay. Luckily, in this article I’m sharing my 3 favorite places to stay in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Read on to discover our local insider recommendations!

1. Hôtel d’Aubusson Paris

First up on my list of our 3 favorite places to stay in Saint-Germain-des-Prés is the comfortable Hôtel d’Aubusson. Located at 33 Rue Duaphine, this five star hotel is super central and makes exploring the area really easy. In the middle of a bustling commerce street but nestled into a converted Parisian mansion, the hotel balances modernity and classicism perfectly.  Antique stone fireplaces, tapestries, beautiful hardwood floors and sumptuous furnishings give the hotel a cozy Renaissance vibe. The hotel also has a lovely private outdoor courtyard, the perfect place to enjoy a drink after a day of exploring Saint-Germain.

The rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished, with French accents like crown moldings and exposed beams you’ll truly feel like you’re in the heart of Paris. With high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, the rooms all have lots of light and make an excellent use of space. Muted tones, minimalist furniture and tasteful decorations are mainstays here. Each room has basic amenities but also includes a desk and/or table and chairs. This is pretty rare for Paris but definitely a big plus if you have some work to do during your stay. Plus, the environment is very inspiring, making it a great place to work.  Overall, the comfortable furnishings and friendly staff will ensure you feel right at home at Hôtel d’Aubusson.

Finally, this place makes our top 3 favorite places to stay in Saint-Germain-des-Prés because the price is right. You can count on spending about 300 € per night for a double room (accommodates 2 people). Suites and larger rooms are more, depending on the options you choose. But still a great bargain for a five star hotel in one of Paris’ priciest neighborhoods.

2. Hotel Villa Madame

One the posh Rue Madame is this true hidden gem. I included this place on our 3 favorite places to stay in Saint-Germain-des-Prés due to its great location and affordable prices. The hotel itself is tucked away at 44 Rue Madame, just minutes away from both the Jardin du Luxembourg and the center of Saint-Germain. Both of these places are must-sees in the neighborhood! Not to mention, the the area surrounding the hotel is filled with charming little cafés and plenty of boutiques to satisfy your shopping needs.

The Villa Madame is a boutique hotel, meaning all of the rooms are slightly different. Casual yet cool, Villa Madame features mostly modern furnishings, and all of the rooms are quite spacious. The coolest part of this spot is the hidden rooftop terrace. Perched high above the Parisian rooftops you can take in the view of the city streets below. Apart from their excellent location, the hotel has four stars and definitely lives up to all of them. Star ratings are taken very seriously in Paris, and at Hotel Villa Madame you get a great value for your money. The basic double room (accomdates 2 people) starts at less than 200 € per night, which is a total bargain in this nieghborhood.

3. L’Hotel

Definitely the most upscale of our 3 favorite places to stay in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, you’ll feel pampered during your stay at l’Hotel. Located in Oscar Wilde’s converted residence, this 5 star hotel has all the perks and quirks of a 20th-century writer’s haunt. Exquisite antique furnishings and thoughtful, individualized decor evoke the spirit of the artsy Left Bank. Well-known for its discrete charm, personalities like Jim Morrison, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and Princess Grace are just a few of the hotel’s former regulars.

True to its early 20th roots, the hotel is small and intimate with just 20 rooms, each as opulent as the last. One of the rooms is even dedicated to Oscar Wilde and is still arranged to resemble how it was when he lived there! Domed ceilings, ancient fountains, and beautifully-painted impressionist artworks are just some of the details you can expect at l’Hotel. The in-house Michelin-starred restaurant is also worth a visit, though be sure to dress for the occasion.

This hotel’s super central location at 33 Rue des Beaux Arts is a quiet hideaway just moments from the bustling Boulevard Saint-Germain.  The best way to explore Paris is by walking.  And  it’s just a ten minute walk from l’Hotel to the Louvre! Central yet hidden away on a residential street, l’Hotel is the perfect home base for those who love a good balance of activity and quiet. Being the most high-end hotel on the list, it’s also the priciest but not out of reach. Classic double rooms start at around 350 € per night, but this place really makes extra splurge is worth it!
