Things to do in Paris on a weekend

You have only a few hours in Paris, and you don’t know where to begin your tour. You plan a romantic weekend or a family weekend, but you have no idea what to do and when? Here are some things to do in Paris on a weekend to help you plan your trip!

On Saturday morning

On Saturday morning, I would advise you to wake up early and to go directly to the Eiffel Tower! Get there at 8:30 am, so that you don’t wait long to have your ticket and you will be able to climb at the top of the “Iron Lady” without losing too much time. If you have 48 hours in Paris, this is definitely one of the things to do, you will admire the view of all Paris! At lunch, you can just have a picnic on Champs de Mars, or just sit near the Seine on the “promenade”.

On Saturday afternoon

Things to do in Paris on a weekend

Saturday afternoon, you can go to the most famous museum in the world: The Louvre, go to different parts of the museum to discover the huge collection of objects, from Egyptian antiques to Da Vinci, Muslim arts and Napoléon’s apartment. If I were you, I would buy the tickets before going to the museum, to save time. Don’t enter by the pyramid entrance, it is always full of people! the entrance of Palais Royal-Musée du Louvre metro station (on line 1), or the one at the 99, Rivoli Street by the Carrousel du Louvre.

Travel tips for Paris

Book some (not all) tickets in advance.

  • Waiting in line is not something you can avoid when visiting Paris. The best advice we could give you is to book tickets in advance before visiting popular landmarks.
  • The Louvre is a “must see” as well, which means you could be waiting a long time to visit it. Tickets in advance might be a really good idea!

Consider joining  a walking tour

If you don’t want to spend all day in this museum, choose what you want to see before entering! After the visit, you can take a walk on the Tuileries Garden. It is just next to the museum and then go to Concorde Square (The square with the obelisk) and then walk the Champs-Elysées (which is on the other side of the square!) to reach the Arc de Triomphe. If you are not really fond of the Mona Lisa or mummies, you can go to the Musée d’Orsay, which is full of paintings from the 19th century, and admire Monet’s, Manet’s and Renoir’s most famous paintings.

On Saturday night

Seine Banks

On Saturday night, after dining, when the sun sets, take a walk along the Seine and cross bridges. This is definitely the best way to see Paris at night, furthermore, you will see that the “quai” (dock) is full of people, both young and old. People who love to have fun in this part of Paris. You will sometimes find free concerts, people singing and playing the guitar, etc. This is the place to be at night in Paris! You can also go to the Latin Quarter, the left bank of Paris. A night spent in the Latin Quarter is unforgettable, you will live the parisian experience to the fullest! You will love it!

On Sunday morning

Marais

On Sunday morning, you can go to Saint-Paul and visit the Marais, which is a mythic place full of history in Paris where Parisians love to go to shop and meet friends. A lot of shops are open on Sunday, and you will be able to go to Place des Vosges, which is the oldest royal square in Paris. If you want to have lunch in this area, I recommend you have some falafels, because the Marais used to be the Jewish quarter of Paris and they are delicious!

On Sunday afternoon

On Sunday afternoon, I really recommend you to go to Montmartre, not only for the Sacré-Coeur, but for all those little tiny streets, where you can spot “bobo” (bourgeois-bohemian), the best bakeries in Paris, gorgeous cafés like Café des 2 Moulins on Rue Lepic, or the wild-mills (not the Red one, but look for the two hidden wild-mills on the hill). You will have a really good time in Montmartre and you will finish your trip with the most beautiful view of Paris!
