Things to do in Paris in February

February in Paris is beautiful! Even though the city is beginning to take off its Christmas lights, the magic remains. Some Parisians are on vacations. They are wandering in the lively streets or on the banks of the river Seine while enjoying a delicious hot crêpe. My favorite one is the melted chocolate with flaked almonds, it is the best! In February, there are plenty of events, shows, markets, restaurants to see…

If you’re looking for a few tips from a local to have a wonderful (though cold) stay in Paris, read on to find out some of the things to do in Paris in February!

Make the most of Paris February Sales

When I think about the best things to do in Paris in February, I always start by checking the dates of the next winter sales, “les soldes” in French. This is the moment every great department store sells off the unsold items. Not the ones of the last season, but the ones of the current collection, so you are still at the cutting edge of fashion, but for way cheaper!

Start with the amazing nineteenth century Galeries Lafayette, located at 40 boulevard Hausmann (on metro line 7 and 9, at metro station Chaussée d’Antin-Lafayette). This year, it will take place from January the 8th until February the 4th. So get ready! If you want to fully enjoy the winter sales, the best thing you can do is to go shopping early in the morning, at the shops opening hours!

Have a tour of Paris’s major landmarks (especially if it is snowing)

Things to do in Paris in February

You obviously know the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe! However, you probably don’t know how they look under the snow, without the crowd surrounding them… The landmarks glow and are more beautiful than ever!

To simply have a walk in the capital is the best way to get an overall view of the way Parisians live in it. All the shops, restaurants, main boulevards, scents and noises of the city in winter are so full of charm…

Make friend with a French chef

As you know Paris has plenty of great restaurants. But careful, it also has so many tourist traps. I’m, of course, a tour guide, but I’m also someone that loves amazing food for a reasonable price. A good ratio of quality – quantity – and the price is quite hard to find in Paris. But this kind of restaurants actually exist. So to really appreciate the good fresh French food, it is important to understand where the products come from. That’s why I also go to the open markets a lot and talk to the food sellers.

One great way to experience all that in February in Paris is to try this food experience. You’ll love it! I recommend you to read this article to find out more about the best open markets in Paris.

Have a piece of countryside in Paris

If you like contrasts, the Salon de l’Agriculture is one of the things to do in Paris in February. This year, it will be held from February, 22th to March, 1st. You know that the French do not laugh with their farming traditions: you will be able to taste varieties of cheese and charcuterie (cold cuts), and you will get to meet cows, pigs and chicken, some of them competing for the coveted title of the “Most Beautiful Animal” in their category.

And if you are lucky, you may witness another kind of competition by coming across the most famous French politicians (including the President himself!), for whom the Salon de l’Agriculture is an essential step towards the (re-)elections!

Have a warm (and delicious) pause over a “Raclette”

After effort comes comfort. If you have just braved the cold winter to discover Paris’s landmarks, you might need warmth and energy. So having a “raclette” has to be on your list of things to do in Paris in February.

The raclette, a specialty from our mountains, is made of melted cheese, hot potatoes and charcuterie. Here are some good places where you can enjoy it: Le Chalet Savoyard, at 58 rue de Charonne (on metro line 8, metro station Ledru-Rollin) or Pain, Vin et Fromages, in the heart of the trendy Marais district, at 3 rue Geoffroy-l’Angevin (metro line 11, metro station Rambuteau).

Do something romantic

It happens on February, 14th, just in case you are one of those who tend to forget it! Do you feel like having a cocktail on one of Paris’s rooftops? Go to the bar of the Terass Hotel up on the hill of Montmartre. Located at 12 rue Joseph de Maistre, on metro line 2, station Blanche: it is quite expensive (14-20 euros for a drink), but the view is worth it.

But if you think it is a bit too cold for a terrace, there are plenty more things to do in Paris for Valentine’s day! You can still have a nice view for a dinner (for about fifty euros) under a glass roof at Le Kong, on the top floor of the Kenzo headquarters at 1 rue du Pont Neuf, on metro line 7, metro station Pont Neuf.

If you rather listen to music, you can attend an opera at Opera Garnier! But the truth is you can do any of the many things there is to do in Paris in February, as long as it happens next to the one you love. You will be in the city of love, it will be romantic anyway!
